About this deal

Our runner up recommendation is the Original Organics 4 Tray Tiger Wormery. Constructed from recycled plastic, this one stands out instantly because of its terracotta red colour, which is a good choice for those looking to make a design statement in their garden. It sounds complicated, but its really very easy and only takes a few minutes each week. Wormeries make fabulous unusual presents. This wormery comprises of various levels and compartments that make a total volume of 56 litres. Once the lower trays fill up, add a new one to raise it one level. Its individual components are perfectly sealed from each other to make the wormery easy to assemble. Worms naturally rise up, attracted by the fresh supply of waste, whilst leaving behind vermicompost.

Some wastes have strong odours, which can attract flies (termed fruit flies) that are harmless, but can be a nuisance. This problem can be avoided by burying the new waste in the decomposed material or covering it with a layer of damp newspaper. Do not use chemicals to control the flies as it could harm the worms. A wormery is relatively easy to establish though a few points need to be considered. Conditions required Don’t start a wormery up with less as it will take too long to establish. Each Wormcity wormery contains the followingThe clever design also removes the need for turning, as air can flow freely through the bottom. More impressively still, a tap at the bottom lets you drain liquid from the compost – the perfect liquid fertiliser. The worm compost can be used as a general soil conditioner or as a constituent of homemade growing media. It is generally rich in nitrogen and potassium. While the elegant beehive shape of this composter makes it an attractive addition to any garden, it also scores big on practicality. The arched roof lifts easily so you can tip in any waste, and a hatch at the bottom makes it a cinch to retrieve your mature, ready-to-use compost. If you put your wormery in your garage make sure you you sweep the floor first and put tarp or plastic sheet down, otherwise you'll wake up the next morning to find a handful of dessicated worms on the floor. And no, you cannot revive them by 'just add water'. The WM Series metric is available as a single reduction unit up to 70:1 ratio, with a power capacity of up to 98kW.

We have independently measured some of our competitors’ wormeries and know that the common 2, 3 or 4 tray wormery that are sold measure just 32, 48 litres and 64 litres respectively. For those looking for a large outdoor composter but wanting to steer clear of the more common plastic bin models, this wooden compost bin is a real find. With a 250-litre capacity, it’s perfect for anyone hoping to turn lots of kitchen and garden waste into compost. But don’t just take our word for it as we have been awarded the Number 1 spot in the Gardener’s World Best Buy Wormery with a score of 19/20 This model isn’t the cheapest, but still looks and feels more premium than the price would suggest. You’ll have to put it together yourself – and be prepared to set aside a few hours to do so – but you’ll end up with a brilliant bit of kit that will leave you wondering how you ever did without.

Start by adding a handful of worms and your kitchen waste to the bottom tray. The organisms will begin processing the food. Once one tray is full, add another level and the worms will move upwards to the fresh organic waste leaving the bottom tray full of rich compost. As the waste is broken down, nutrient-rich moisture filters through the system and can later be harvested as organic liquid fertiliser. On the above note, the worms do settle and less inclined to escape after a few days, I think the 24 hour journey via postal / courier service + new accommodation up-scuttles them.
