zasderfght While admittedly the hatred for modern Disney is justified, bringing Disney into the conversation about M3GAN is apples to oranges. If people want to hate on Universal though, for knowingly giving us the shaft on this movie, that's more than acceptable. There’s nothing artificial about the way M3GAN looks on its Blu-ray debut. Colors are bold and the entire spectrum is covered. The interior of the house, office, etc. give a warm vibe that nearly looks like a Hallmark movie (I’m sure it was intentional) while the outdoor scenes retain that sun-soaked color palette. This changes later on, naturally, due to the film’s nature. The 2.39:1 AVC HD encode isn’t challenged in the least with the minor exception of a bit of blooming. It’s certainly indicative of what a new-to-the-format film should look like – it’s good-looking. Audio: How’s it sound? Theatrical/Unrated Cut– Both cuts of the movie are included with the unrated cut being, wait for it…6 seconds longer than the theatrical version. Enjoy. And it's obvious that Wan, Cooper, and Johnstone are having a blast behind the camera as their visuals pay homage in a blissful and hilarious way to movies like E.T., Child's Play, and other creepy toy and doll films that came before it. Everybody turns in solid performances including The Daily Show's senior correspondent Ronny Chieng as the stern and idiotic CEO of the robotic company, but the spotlight is truly on Allison Williams. She is the Queen of horror nowadays and just commands the screen every time she's on with her pitch-perfect performances and physical stuntwork. The one major complaint here is its PG-13 rating. It definitely hindered the horror element of it and could have been even better with that extra dose of gore, blood, and entrails, since many blunt instruments of death are used throughout the film. It would just enhance that level of fun here, but perhaps it was a marketing move to make way for an uncut edition later on home video. Bringing Life to M3GAN– See how animatronics, puppets, and actor Amie Donald helped make M3GAN as real as possible.

Gemma (played by Allison Williams) is a geniusroboticist for a technologically advanced toy company, Funki. Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her niece Cady (Violet McGraw) after a tragic accident kills her parents. Unsure of how to handle this newfound responsibility, Gemma turns to her project, MEGAN, for help. M3GAN, orModel 3 Generative Android, is an artificially intelligent lifelike doll developed by Gemma. The android was designed to be a child’s best friend and loyal companion, especially when caretakers like Gemma need help. At first, MEGAN is a huge success, bonding with Cady and doing exactly what Gemma set out for it to do. However, M3GAN soon develops a violent streak when she becomes overprotective of Cady, leading to tragic consequences. M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams, Get Out), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. As Gemma faces pressure at work from her boss (Ronny Chieng, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) to deliver a finished version of M3GAN, she suddenly becomes the unprepared caretaker of her newly orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House). Gemma decides to pair the M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences. When young Cady's (Violet McGraw) parents die in an automobile accident, she is left to live with her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams), a robotics If you’ve seen Child’s Play (or any of its sequels) then you’ve essentially seen this. Take a look at the cover art. Do you think that something like that could do anything good without there being a nefarious side? Hell no. But the scary part, and I mean the truly scary part, is that this idea isn’t so far-fetched. I read that an artificial intelligence “app” discovered a new form of liver cancer treatment just by scanning doctor’s notes. Good? Of course. But scary is well. How long until these things become self-aware and then we’ve got a Skynet situation on our hands. Ugh. I don’t even want to think about that! The performances are fine, the story is “been there, done that” but despite it all, the film still managed to hold my attention. And given the critical and commercial response, it’s highly likely that we’ll be seeing more of this dead-eyed doll in the future. I can’t wait. Video: How’s it look?

Textural gains are a bit less dramatic. To be sure, the image is plainly sharper and overall clarity is wonderful, but the added resolution only pushes the A robotics engineer at a toy company designs and builds a prototype doll with learning artificial intelligence, that begins to take on a life of its own. create a lifelike robotic companion for her which she dubs "M3GAN" (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis), a lifelike doll that is fully self-sufficient. We meet Cady (Violet McGraw) as we witness a devastating accident that takes the lives of her parents. She’s summarily sent to live with her aunt, Gemma (Allison Williams), someone responsible for creating a “Furby-like” toy that’s the talk of the town. Gemma has some issues at work, namely trying to keep her boss (Ronny Chieng) happy. She’s also woefully unequipped to fill the role of mother. But her newest invention, M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android) looks like a real girl and has the ability to learn from its user. Gemma “pairs” it with Cady which leads to a tight bond between the two. Gemma then uses this attachment to sell the idea to her boss who only sees dollar signs. All is well, though as the bond between the two strengthens, we see a side of M3GAN that might jeopardize the entire project. that traditional SDR colors can offer. The rest of the film offers much the same, with a livelier, more fully saturated, more impressively brilliant and boldIt’s MEGAN’s world,we’re just living in it. The first major release of 2023 came in the form of an android with a murderous streak. After the theatrical run concludes, when will M3GANbe out on Blu-ray and DVD? Is there anything creepier than the dead eyes of an android? No really…is there? Probably not. And I’ve never seen an android in the flesh (so to speak). But I think that technology is evolving fast enough that someday we’ll all have that opportunity. Remember a simpler time when we could go outside, ride a bike and play with some friends? Are those days gone forever? I’m going off on a tangent here. Let me switch gears. Though he’s not the man behind the camera, James Wan has given us his share of horror films. The latest entry into his pantheon is M3GAN, the story of an artificial intelligence “lifeform” who has more to her than meets the eye. Wan has made a name for himself and even with a few of his own films dealing with “creepy dolls”, namely Annabelle and Dead Silence. And now we’ve got…this. Essentially if you add some parts from Fatal Attraction, throw in a bit of Single While Female, mix in some bits of Terminator 2 and a good portion of Child’s Play you’ve got this.
