About this deal

Coral reefs are facing an unprecedented threat from global carbon dioxide emissions, chiefly because of hotter oceans and acidification as the atmospheric gas dissolves into seawater. Thousands of trees are set to be planted to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III with a new government fund launching today (Tuesday 22 August), celebrating His Majesty’s passion for the environment. If you’re making your own crispy onions, do this first; in a small pan, heat a 1cm depth of oil. Fry the onions in batches until crispy, lift out to a kitchen paper-lined plate and sprinkle with salt. The centrepiece of the Coronation Concert, ‘Lighting up the Nation’, will see the country join together in celebration as iconic locations across the United Kingdom are lit up using projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations. The Archbishop of Canterbury conducted the service, a duty which has been undertaken since the Conquest in 1066. For the first time in 1953, a representative of another Church, the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, also took part.

The Big Help Out will be held on Monday, 8th May 2023 and is being organised by The Together Coalition and a wide range of partners such as The Scouts, the Royal Voluntary Service and faith groups from across the United Kingdom. The Big Help Out will highlight the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the nation. The King will be crowned alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort, on Saturday, May 6, at Westminster Abbey in London. As well as the ceremony a host of other events have been planned throughout the weekend. There is also an extra bank holiday on Monday, May 8, to mark the occasion. The declaration of a further 25 largescale National Nature Reserves, during the first five years of the reign of King Charles III, will honour the King’s longstanding support for nature recovery as the focus moves from conservation to creating larger more joined up spaces for wildlife to thrive.

Lisburn& Castlereagh City Council will mark the Coronation of King Charles III with a programme of events for the local community. These new trees will mark His Majesty’s passion for trees and woodlands and deliver a range of benefits for the natural environment - from carbon sequestration, to habitat creation and the boosting of human health and wellbeing”. Prince Harry attended the Coronation service but the BBC understands he was not invited to appear on the balcony. Later, he was reportedly spotted at Heathrow Airport

Here are 50 little known facts about that remarkable day on 2 June 1953:

Waiters rushed platters of tea, sandwiches and crumpets from the kitchen to customers seated outside, as TV screens broadcast the Coronation in full. Through our Environmental Improvement Plan we want to be the first generation to leave the environment in a better state than we inherited it and in this Coronation year even more people will get out and experience our incredible wildlife and landscapes. Thousands of events are expected to take place in every corner of the United Kingdom this May as people take to their streets, gardens, parks and community spaces to join the Coronation celebrations and mark this historic occasion.
