About this deal

We have been told that there were as many as fourteen books — and now we are told there are ten, definitely ten, maybe more if she can figure out how to have Strike solve cases during the UK lockdown of 2020-2021 (when, presumably, all private investigators in the UK went bankrupt or on public assistance). Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention as well as battling her own feelings about Strike. Against a background of all this, plus the 2016 Brexit referendum, is a tale of how the human desire for approval, validation and a sense of purpose can sometimes lead us astray. Criminals haven’t been restricted by any kind of lockdown on their activities, rather they have been provided with additional fields of activity – the explosions of scams being just one example.

has turned to Bronte Studios, their own in-house production company, to make teevee adaptations for the BBC. Will we learn more about recurring characters who are barely mentioned in IBH (if at all), such as Shanker, Vanessa, Uncle Ted, Lucy, Polworth and Robin's brothers? This is the 30th book, but considering Alex has survived "Kill Alex Cross" before, chances are he survives this one. Throughout my reading, I kept wondering “When are we going to hear more about Leda, Rokeby and Strike’s growing up”. A long term “armchair detective” storyline would give him a realistic timeline in which to get himself and his leg into better shape.

Forced to agree that “black’s white and up’s down” and fearful of punishment, the participants begin, after a while, to gaslight themselves. I think writing through, around, or about COVID-19 will (and in many ways, already has) become a roadblock (or inspiration) for many authors, including JKR.

From this view, all the things you expected in Strike6 on the assumption that it would follow on Strike 5 the way Potter 6 follows Potter 5 or the way Silkworm‘preceded’ Career of Evil will eventually happen but not in the novel we expected. Rowling sat down today to talk with Graham Norton about Ink Black Heart, with whom she has previously discussed both Lethal White and The Ickabog in publicity junkets pre-publication.When stretched to ten or more books, the series and teevee show could have a significantly longer and more profitable run. Private Detective Cormoran Strike is contacted by a worried father whose son, Will, has gone to join a religious cult in the depths of the Norfolk countryside. As much as I wish that critical response would not be focused on this Lake-heavy reading rather than on Rowling’s Shed work, the neo-mythological and psychomachian allegory, not to mention the literary alchemy, there’s no stopping that train. Rowling-Galbraith has presented a moving target with respect to how many books will be in the Strike series.

I can’t be the only one considering whether IBH might be half of “book six” from an original plan for seven books. Some kind reader suggested to me then that I wasn’t really wrong; I was just early with my prediction, that Dumbledore must die in the next book, which of course it turned out he did.Whatever the true meaning behind the title and clue may be, one thing is certain – fans of the Cormoran Strike series are eagerly anticipating the release of “ The Running Grave” and the new case that it will bring for the private detective to solve. This will be my first post on this discussion board, but after finishing IBH on Saturday, my immediate thought was that IBH is Strike’s response to TB, which is Robin’s book. It also could answer questions about some “missing elements,” such as the Silver Haired Man, Gigi the hanged singer, the rest of the Halvening story, Strike and Robin deciding to become romantic partners, a deliberate kiss to parallel the hand kiss, Pru, Rokeby, Leda, Switch, etc. Strike’s never tackled a cold case before let alone one 40 years old, but despite the slim chance of success, he’s intrigued and takes it on, adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency Robin Ellacott are currently working on. Those who can be persuaded talk of supernatural happenings, in particular the apparition of the “Drowned Prophet”, believed to be a divine reincarnation of Papa J’s seven-year-old daughter Daiyu, who supposedly disappeared during a dip in the North Sea in 1995.
