About this deal

If you’re after a significant upgrade in power for your TV or PC monitor speakers, the Edifier R1280DB are a great option. They deliver Hi-Fi-like levels of power and warmth, all without the hassle of any extra equipment, and for a bargain price. The MDF cabinet helps prevent resonance, so you can place your speakers on any raised surface and enjoy music from anywhere in the room. Furthermore, the wood finish blends well with any furniture in the living. The design also includes a removable mesh grille that helps prevent dirt from entering the speakers while still giving the speakers an elegant look. What we like Inputs: 1 x Optical TOSLINK Input (Audio), 1 x Digital Coaxial Input (Audio), 2 x Stereo RCA Input (Audio) This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. The R1280DBs gets a lot right, and the only issue from my point of view is Bluetooth. While it's great that you can easily pair your phone to the speakers and play music, the fact that streaming is limited to the SBC codec means you're not going to get much in the way of detailed sound.

The R1280DBs has a compact design for bookshelf speakers, making it ideally suited for use in a desktop setting. It doesn't look too big next to my 27-inch Xiaomi gaming monitor, and the Niffler seems to like it, so that's something. And what makes that sense all the more palpable is the fact that it never goes over the top or excessive. Rather, it comes across as something you’d find in some refined gentleman’s home. BLUETOOTH WIRELESS - Popular classic bookshelf speakers now can be enjoyed without the hassle of wires. Simply connection to an iPhone, Android, Tablet, PC or Mac. The Edifier R1280DB is best suited for a small room setup or general computer use. For their size, you can’t expect booming bass, but the overall sound quality is amazing. On the contrary, the R1280DBs is an excellent pair for serious music and bass lovers looking for outstanding and enveloping sound but don’t have the space or budget for larger and expensive tower speakers.Compared to typical similarly priced portables these sound: louder, fuller, more balanced and even, not distorted when turned up. You may think this a small issue but I found the volume adjustment to be overly smooth and subtle, such that it was quite difficult to immediately tell the difference, making it all too easy to press the volume button too many times before realising the volume had changed. The performance of the Edifier R1280DB speaker in the connection of the high, mid, and low-frequency range is relatively natural. Its accurate sound phase makes us feel very comfortable. It seems that it is not a problem to play pop music in this kind of sound, which is at least enough to satisfy most users. Conclusion While there are other monitors with more intuitive tuning options, the Edifier R1280DB doesn’t leave you empty-handed. Despite the fact that monitor tuning on an entry-level speaker is simply not in the cards most of the time, the R1280DB comes equipped with some basic levels of adjustment.

This selection of inputs is what makes these speakers such a versatile option, especially when combined with the Bluetooth input. You can hook up a TV or PC, something like a Google Chromecast Audio and connect your phone through Bluetooth, all without any extra boxes or paraphernalia. In fact, not only are there very few entry-level monitors that can stand in the same room as the R1280DB, but only the high-end monitors objectively beat it in terms of overall quality. The Highs & Mids The downside is that, while it is pretty useful for playing tunes from a distance, the remote isn’t all that sturdy or solid.Pairing with streaming devices is hassle-free, plus the speakers are unfussy about placement. However, the Bluetooth connection is not compatible with aptX, which offers more high-quality audio than standard Bluetooth. On-board controls

The speaker’s side adopts a wood grain design, and it is quite natural and beautiful, which will be pretty consistent with the environment of the furniture. And, while you’ll need either a subwoofer or a larger speaker if you want to really blast your music, for the vast majority of people – either casually or professionally – this is going to be plenty loud in closed settings. And while you shouldn’t expect earthquake levels of bass, you’ll often find yourself pleasantly surprised at the level of intensity that they do have. Slight Distortions Bear in mind, sound perception within the DJ gear space is highly personal. A thousand people may have a thousand differing opinions of the Edifier R1280DB. However, you can have confidence that all things being equal, you’ll undoubtedly appreciate the sound these speakers produce. They possess a tonality that feels just right, without any peculiar frequency imbalances or problems commonly found in many other small-format studio monitors.

I have an Audioengine B1 wireless DAC. It has good sound performance. It uses Bluetooth 5.0 for the input, ensuring extremely high fidelity. For an optimal listening experience, you’ll need to pair your bookshelf speaker with a good subwoofer. The R1280DBs come with a sub-out port which you can use to connect a subwoofer to enable the speakers to produce rich and deep bass. If you answered, “Obviously,” there’s a very, very strong chance that you’ll consider these speakers to be worth your time. Perhaps most crucially, the sound is reasonably even, with no particularly prominent boost to the bass or treble. PC speakers in particular often try to use bass or treble to sound more powerful and detailed than they really are. Here, however, you just get a reasonably even sound. The treble performance should be a very characteristic frequency band of Edifier R1280DB. After all, many entry-level 2.0 speakers mainly focus on the bass punch effect, but it seems that there are not many that can highlight the treble impact. You get a significant improvement in sound quality and value for money by choosing these over similarly priced portable Bluetooth speakers. If you have a spot for them in your house and can leave them there, it's a no brainer. I briefly considered the S2000DB, which again won massive praise from all reviewers. Unfortunately, the price difference in the UK between those and the S1000DB was just too much for me. I would dearly love to hear the S2000DB and I will be watching the price carefully, just in case I need speakers for the bathroom…! Watch this space!!!
