About this deal

They initially called the song Boogaloo, but Abba manager and co-writer Stig Anderson suggested a different title. When Benny Andersson played Lyngstad (then his partner) the instrumental demo, she burst into tears. Effortless Installation for Instant Glamour Or perhaps it’s the story of the song, unambiguous and universal in its appeal: the liberation of the dancefloor when you lose your inhibitions for a few fleeting moments, and the spotlight is finally on you. Almost all of us will have been there at least once in our lives. Pop supremo Pete Waterman believes the opening line – “Friday night and the lights are low” – is pretty hard to beat, too. Its legacy lives on When they first recorded 'Dancing Queen', Agnetha and Frida sang an extra verse, only for it to be scrapped and snipped out before it was released. Its legacy lives on in less obvious places as well. The song’s piano chords inspired Elvis Costello’s “Oliver’s Army,” while MGMT admitted they’d followed the tempo for their “Time To Pretend” breakthrough. It’s almost certainly the disco song that’s OK for everyone to like – both then and now – and helped break the genre on American radio at a time when playlists were notoriously conservative. The A*Teens – pint-size ABBA minipops – who enjoyed a handful of hits at the dawn of the new millennium didn’t tamper with the formula much either, but Daecolm’s soulful reimagining helped him get signed in 2017 after it secured millions of YouTube views. It perhaps owed something to American band Sixpence None The Richer’s earlier lush reworking, which never got a single release but should have done. The Dancing Queen Neon Sign is a masterpiece of design, featuring an elegant, scripted font and a choice of vibrant colors that command attention. As it turns out, both 'Fernando' AND 'Dancing Queen' went all the way to number one, so maybe Stig was on to something with his strategy. The basic point, the important point, here is this: you have spent your entire life believing "Dancing Queen" is a song about a 17 year old girl, dancing. And to a point, it is. Yet, have you ever thought about the song's vantage point? The recording studio footage emerged, and some clever people have even edited the line into the full song, not that it needs it.

Dancing Queen was premiered in June 1976 in a suitably regal setting: a gala to celebrate the wedding of Sweden’s King Carl XVI. By the autumn, it was an international smash, with even smirking music press critics recognising its brilliance. “Any band that can make even disco sound like the Ronettes can’t be all bad!” crowed Robot A Hull in Creem. “It’s fodder for the masses in its least derogatory sense,” wrote Tim Lott in Sounds. New wavers loved Dancing Queen too. Elvis Costello cribbed its piano line for Oliver’s Army and Chris Stein admitted that Blondie’s Dreaming was “pretty much a copy of Dancing Queen”. Well aware he had a hit on his hands, Benny Andersson wanted to release 'Dancing Queen' as the follow-up to the UK chart-topping 'Mamma Mia'. ABBA recorded a Spanish-language version called 'Reina Danzante' (later retitled 'La Reina Del Baile') in for the 1980 compilation album Gracias Por La Música.

Embrace the spotlight and let your inner Dancing Queen shine with our stunning Dancing Queen Neon Sign. Elevate your surroundings with the timeless glamour of a dance floor, whether you're hosting a party, decorating your studio, Yet for my money, none of their hits come anywhere close to "Dancing Queen" in the longing stakes. It is a song that says the best has been. The best now belongs to somebody else. The best you can now do is watch the best and remember when you were the best. It's a song for the moment when the value of your memories outweigh the value of your ambitions. "Dancing Queen", a song now most commonly preceded by a function DJ slurring the words "get yer dancing shoes on" into a low quality microphone or belted at West End audiences, is in fact a song about watching the party from the other side of the glass, knowing you'll never be on the list again. We understand that personalization is key to making your space uniquely your own. That's why we offer customization options for your Dancing Queen Neon Sign. First things first: what a record. In a conversation with THUMP that we stupidly didn't record, the ever-enlightened DJ Harvey once told us he believes "Dancing Queen" is the greatest disco record ever made and it's hard to disagree. It's a song of such high-quality, a song so beloved, it's been nearly entirely ruined by the weight of it legacy. But even then it triumphs. That initial glissando, the endless, breathless, pirouettes in your ears. The tepid beat—barely faster than your heartbeat—the choral whirls and clambering strings. It's perfect. But you already knew that.
