About this deal

Even Evil Has Standards: The monstrous Worst Man is the foulest criminal on Elekton but he does have one specific standard - he's a firm believer in a fair fight (he even kills a henchman who tried to shoot Trigo in their match) and when he's dying due to a snakebite accident after his scrap with Trigo was interrupted, he's a Graceful Loser and concedes that Trigo is the winner. The artwork was better than any other of its time, the writing was so overblown it would have been laughed out of a pulp magazine. For a long while, the most widely-available collection of Trigan Empire stories was The Trigan Empire, a 1978 hardcover edition published in the United Kingdom by the Hamlyn Group and the United States by Chartwell Books. Don Lawrence was born in 1928, and worked for Mick Anglo on the Marvelman comic produced for Amalgamated Press, and then Billy the Kid in the comic Sun.

The red weed envelops Trigan City and the citizens flee to the hills, leaving the stricken city in the hands of Lokan slaves. Not only are the stories combined, but they have been truncated to from 34 pages to 25 pages by eliding panels and recomposing pages.

All of this matters not a jot: the imperative to have something exciting happen in every weekly episode, and each episode being only two pages long, means the pace is absolutely breathtaking and you don't have time to notice how ridiculous it all is.Entries appear much the same as in their original serial publication, though transition text and titles have been removed.

When Sun was absorbed into Lion he moved on to illustrating Olac the Gladiator, Karl the Viking and Maroc the Mighty. Argo, the son of Trigo while being controlled by an evil alien, had King Kassar, his own grandfather and previously a major character, executed. As the weed crushes the city, it becomes clear that it is only the vanguard of a full-scale invasion by warriors from another planet.

Portions of the Trigan Empire saga have been collected in a series of book-length volumes—often reformatting the original comics—from 1973 to present. However, as the story progressed, it became a series of adventure stories featuring the same cast of characters, principally Trigo, the emperor; Brag, his brother; Janno, Brag's dashing son; Keren, Janno's friend; Peric, a wise architect and scientific genius, and his daughter, Salvia. For example, the opening sequence of both the serialized version and the 1978 collection portrays a Trigan spacecraft and its dead passengers hurtling through space, but the collected edition enlarges the four of the six panels from the original first page.

The story itself, by Mike Butterworth (a long-time British comics pro, and not to be confused with the legendary perv behind Manchester's infamous Savoy Books), is complete nonsense. The main recurring non-white races are green-skinned, ranging from yellowish to turquoise with little consistency between episodes. I got the Look and Learn magazine as a boy, but that was many, many years ago and I honestly cannot remember much about it now. Gorgeous Period Dress: Flash Gordon, ancient Rome and Arabian Nights stuff all mixed up in lovely colour.Besides the stories by Don Lawrence and Mike Butterworth, each book contains a well illustrated dossier with detailed background information about how the stories were made and interesting documentaries about the Trigan Empire. Mooks: Guards can arrest and oppress when needed, but as soon as the rebellion occurs they can be pushed aside by angry civilians. The spaceship resisted the impact en onboard men found the dead crew and a collection of books with inside the chronicles of the Trigan Empire. The Trigan Empire was published in installments in a number of British and European comics during the 1960s and '70s. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
