With the crystal, players can transport their custom Imaginatiors to all video game consoles the game is released for. Gill Grunt was one of the original Skylanders figures from Spyro's Adventure, so even though your Tidal Wave Gill Grunt is a Trap Team figure from a newer game, it will work in any games in the franchise from the first Skylanders Spyro's Adventure game onward.

While Superchargers and Imaginators are compatible with older portals, the lack of Trap slot on some will prevent usage of traps. Coloring them with a Sharpie pen won't hurt their functionality on the game portal, so they should still work with the games just fine. Notably, the Nintendo Switch version of Imaginators does not feature a portal, instead using the NFC capabilities of the console's Joy-Con-R controller to communicate with Skylanders figures.In Swap Force, the newer portals are still a necessity as these were updated to being able to read more figures at once. For example, all figures that were released for the Spyro's Adventure game will work in every game in the franchise, because that was the first game to be released. These new parts can be used to customize the player's existing Imaginators, which can be modified at any time.

It is encircled by a white plastic barrier, with 3 gray stone-look pedestals that support the portal and allow it to lie flat. Creation Crystals are mostly cylindrical in shape, with a clear plastic tube that houses a colored plastic gem in the center, which lights up when placed onto the portal.

But with the lovely benefit of pandemic unemployment money last year when everything was shut down, I finally completed my Imaginators collection, leaving me with every skylander that has come out! You can't reset your Crystal, or at least not officially; some users have reported success using a Nintendo 3DS Skylanders game and a glitch to effectively wipe the Crystal, but it isn't officially supported. There are also no region locks or restrictions on figures, so you may import them from other countries online without having to worry about compatibility issues in your region.

However, a mysterious being soon steals a book from the Skylanders Academy, and is soon revealed to work for Kaos, who seeks to use the power of Mind Magic to create an army of Doomlanders to conquer Skylands.
