About this deal

Mano Base stores nutrients when there are excesses which means they are able to release them as and when the plants need them. This means superior planted growth, better water conditioning and less algae blooming.

Base layers/additives are typically laid on the bottom layer of the aquarium and topped with an appropriate plain gravel or sand. A grain size of 1-4mm is ideal, preferably lime-free. These are relatively inexpensive but may not be as effective as a complete substrate. When uprooting plants, migration of the nutrient-rich additives into the upper levels can occur causing potential clouding. The substrate for live plants that you select will offer guidance on the amount you need to put in your aquarium. Generally speaking, deep-rooted plants require two to three inches of substrate. If you choose Seachem Flourite, I recommend you clean it before adding it to your planted aquarium. If you don’t, it’s more likely to discolor the water. Pros Scents: Scents are commonly found in cat litter and can be found in some children’s play sand as well. These chemicals can leach into your aquarium water and potential injure or kill your aquatic pets. Dyes: Dyes, like those used on colored play sand, can come off over time. This can discolor your tank water and even other items within the tank. Some dyes are dangerous for aquatic plants and animals.

The more soils that appear in the marketplace the better, meaning more choice and, hopefully, lower prices for all. With the potential to release ammonia this isn’t a product for beginners and it cannot be vacuum cleaned as you would be able to with conventional gravels. It can be messy too. Before you go ahead and look at individual types of substrate for your planted tank, you’ll need to understand some basic facts. This type of layering can create a good base for your plants to root into, and offers a great environment for them to grow. Ammonia/nutrient content/organic content - Some aquasoils are heavily spiked with ammonia (ADA aquasoil) while others are not (Dennerle). Soils heavily spiked with ammonia need frequent water changes during first couple of weeks and/or pre-cycling the tank for 1-2 weeks before planting.I used the Flora Base Pro powder type to cap the akadama and use as front substrate for the hairgrass carpet. It is very light in weight and very easy crushed into powder. I have used these regularly to help feed many species of plants and growth has significantly improved after their installation. They are easy to install consisting of a capsule shape that inserts into the substrate smoothly. Containing a huge host of nutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and many micronutrients, they are the most comprehensive product in the range of tablet type products here. New capsules should be used every six months or so, depending on plant condition. Highly recommended.
