A steam distillation process is used to extract myrrh essential oil, which is amber to brown in color and has an earthy scent ( 3).

Two common parasitic infections in the US are trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted disease, and giardiasis, an intestinal infection ( 28, 29, 30). It has also been used as an astringent, as an antiseptic to be applied to inflamed sores of the throat and mouth, to stimulate menstruation, as an antispasmodic, and for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases. The resin can be distilled to extract an essential oil, pulverized into a powder which can be used in tablets and capsules, or dissolved in ethanol to make a tincture. Myrrh has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. Scientists are now testing the oil’s potential uses, including for pain, infections, and skin sores ( 4).So in comparison, coconut oil and myrrh are similar in many respects and differ in only a few ways. Their effectiveness against odour causing bacteria, tooth decay, and gum problems is about the same. Myrrh tincture has the potential for more general mouth wellness properties, while coconut oil improves and maintains tooth strength while supporting your gums as well. They are both excellent choices for natural dental health care. The tincture should then be strained, placed in a dark bottle, and stored away from strong light. Take 1-2 mL three times a day. Nature's Answer's bottle says that one serving size contains 2000mg of "Extract*"; the asteric remark says that this is "equivalent to 1000mg of Myrrh Gum". I understood this to mean that one serving size contained 1000mg of Myrrh Gum. I was confused as to why the extract (2000mg) was higher than the equivalent raw gum (1000mg), and would have expected it to be reversed; e.g., 1000mg of extract being equivalent to 2000mg of raw gum. Perhaps this means that the total combined weight of the ethanol plus the 1000mg of Myrrh gum equaled 2000mL.
