About this deal

The memory foam is better for establishing a seal, but it places fatiguing pressure on my ears after an hour—with the silicone ear tips, I can listen for hours.

The maximum sound pressure level is specified to be 124dB SPL (1kHz/1Vrms), but I strongly advise against playing music that loud; it will damage your hearing in only a few minutes. Indeed, some people can “feel” those sub 20Hz low frequency and infrasound bass frequencies even if their ears and brain can’t interpret them. As I had come to expect, the IE 300 sounded clean, full-bodied, and well-balanced with tight bass, natural horns, and great imaging. From the kevlar-esque cabling to the gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connectors, it’s clear this is a quality product. It appears that Sennheiser is playing both sides by using mainly Chinese labor, but advertising German manufacturing. From the same album, Coral showed off moments of breathy and birdlike reverse synth chirping that felt otherwise backgrounded on other audio equipment. The IE 300 under-emphasizes the treble response which makes the IEMs sound slightly more studio-oriented than most consumer-friendly headsets. The outer shell has a raised plate with the Sennheiser logo and a single vent to the rear of the logo. My last two contributions are tracks that show off stage depth and both are tracks I use for reviews quite frequently. As long as it’s used with the right eartips for your ears, it delivers clean, clear, open, full-bodied sound with superb imaging, and the balance between bass, midrange, and treble is nigh on perfect.

Because Sennheiser includes several sizes and more than one type of ear tip, you can really dial in your fit, influencing not just how well the IEMs stay put, but also how much they isolate. Harry is an Australian Journalist for TechRadar with an ear to the ground for future tech, and the other in front of a vintage amplifier. The cable can detach from each earpiece thanks to a gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connector, which is seated in a recessed socket for additional strain relief. In a highly digital world, the aluminum housing reminds us that humans still like nicely made objects. If you’re a bass head, you might want more, but the IE 300 is reasonable with its bass, closely mimicking our chart.

The current version is rated at 16Ω but remember that Sennheiser rates their sensitivity at 1kHz/1Vrms so the 124dB rating is not the equal of the dB/mW rating used by a lot of other measurements.

With the IE 300, you get more scale to the bass, as it fills out more of the sound signature with smooth and colorful textures. The sharp backbeat (it might be rim shots, but I’m not sure) was super crisp, and the brass band at the end was beautiful. Runnin too deep shows off Richard’s at his finest and has a depth to the stage that few studio tracks can match. That cable is detachable from each earpiece thanks to a gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connector, which is seated in a recessed socket for additional strain relief.

The cable has a gentle memory wire that holds it in place when bent and curved over the top of the ear.The cable is substantial and has a memory wire near the buds that wraps unobtrusively over your ears. The shape of the housings presses ever so slightly where the concha meets the anti-helix on my right ear. From that peak, mid-bass drops back fairly quickly and loses all emphasis as it crosses into the lower mids. Isolation performance like this might not supplant noise cancellation tech, but it can attenuate bass frequencies by up to 10dB, cutting the loudness of some sounds in half.
