It is believed that souls need encouragement to return home on D í a de los Muertos. Families build altars or ofrendas that include photos, candles, flowers, food, drink, and toys to help guide the souls home for the celebration. These altars serve to honor deceased loved ones and invite their spirits into the home or space. Día de los Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, is a vibrant Mexican celebration that honors the lives of deceased loved ones. It is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd across Mexico and other Latin American countries. Families and communities come together, share stories, and pay tribute to loved ones who have died. This culturally rich holiday fills communities with bright colors, hope, food, and love.They are often depicted as colorful and vibrant sugar skulls, which are used as decorations during the celebrations. I personally always been interested in the Day of the Dead myself – I like the idea of celebrating the dead and making the “morbid, less morbid”. So once again, we thought we would come together and share our Day of Dead Craft ideas in a video for you. I have then added some additional links for you peruse! Día de los Muertos Overview I asked the boys what they would like to make, and ‘masks’ and ‘bunting’ seemed popular and do-able choices… as they are 9 and 10 now, and love their Marvel graphic novels, they wanted me to ‘draw’ the templates in Illustrator for them to colour – so that’s what we’ve done… and I’ve attached a FREE Printable for you to colour and create your own Day of the Dead garland too…(you too can make your own ‘microwave dave’ character like the 10yo…)

It falls around on the 1st Novemeber and 2nd November – in other words close to All Saints Day, which is often celebrated as All Hallows Eve or Halloween. It is however a different celebration all together.
