About this deal

Use corn gluten meal on lawns to prevent weeds from popping up and spoiling its appearance. Corn gluten works by preventing weed seeds from rooting after germination. When applied correctly, corn gluten meal can stop crabgrass from taking over your beautiful lawn. In 2021 the company also said it would pull glyphosate from consumer products in 2023. Though currently glyphosate-based Roundup products are still widely available in retail stores and online. It is even an AGW mitigation technique sequestering 5–20 tonnes CO2e / ha / yr into the long term carbon cycle!

So is there a way to control weeds in our yards without the use of Roundup? Yes! In fact, there are many natural alternatives to Roundup that you probably already have on hand. What’s So Bad About Roundup? Cover the ground with mulch (you can also try a few layers of newspapers) to keep the seeds away from sunlight and thus limit their chance to sprout. Put dish soap and essential oils into the bottle and mix. Next, pour in the vinegar. Tighten the lid and shake vigorously. This weedkiller is not selective, so make sure you spray it only on the plants you want dead. 3. White Vinegar I have personally used 5% white vinegar in the past on certain weeds with much success, so it really depends on the type of weed, and how persistent you are with the lower concentration. There are vinegars out there that have a higher acetic acid concentration, but they are often made with GMO corn, and so it isn’t really an environmentally friendly option. The best way to go about using vinegar would be to combine a lower concentration (like 5%) with a little bit of all-natural dish soap. 4. Boiling WaterWhilst not a particularly fast-acting weed killer, compared to those which show results in a couple of days, results on weeds should start to be visible after a couple of weeks. Although it’s one of the strongest weed killers, it may take a few weeks to notice brambles dying off. A repeat application after six weeks might be required. A study by the University of Maryland reported that vinegar could be an effective alternative to glyphosate (Roundup). Vinegar containing between 5% and 10% acetic acid was effective in killing young weeds. Commercial vinegar with 20% acetic acid was effective against crabgrass and broadleaf weeds. ( 3) Some of these latter chemicals are not compatible with some food crops and can damage them severely.

The water will soften the ground and will make the task easier for you. Keep some tools like screwdrivers or knives at hand and use them if you have to loosen the roots before pulling the weed. Principally, weeds are plants whose undesirable qualities outweigh their good points, at least according to us humans. It’s a bit more advanced scientifically than the current antiquated forms of industrial agriculture. This idea is also a very simple and inexpensive way to dispose of all the greeneries that have occupied your beloved garden. There are a couple of reasons why this pump spray weed killer speeds up the process of getting rid of pesky weeds, and it comes down to both its effectiveness, and its straight-forward application style.Neal, J. and Senesac, A.
