About this deal

Firstly my caravan roof does not leak ( as far as I now ) but I thought it would not be bad idea to put some new sealant on the roof joints on my Bailey Senator Indiana 2005 model.I thought then I would put some tape over the joints to make sure it will be water tight but what would be the best type of tape to buy ? we spend a lot of time in Spain so needs to be tough and able to take the heat etc. I saw on CT someone recommended a certain type of really tough tape but I cannot find the post. Not so sure about Gorilla Tape. W4 is a company that specialises in leisure products with a focus on the caravan, marine and camping industries. This W4 mastic sealing strip is a 5m reel of 19mm wide mastic that has been formulated to use as re-bedding and sealing various parts of your caravan or leisure vehicle including as a caravan external sealant on trims, window surrounds, vents, roof lights, roof vents, awning rails and overlap joints. A sealant with a high UV reflective rating will mean that this will reduce the level of maintenance that you’ll need to do to repair damage caused by UV rays. For the low price of a sealant, this can save you a big headache in the future. Long-Lasting

When I had a similar patch I removed the whole awning rail and sealed the lot. I found the the leak when the rail was off, some screws were rusty were the water had entered and they were a distance away from the damp patch. Silicone sealants are the most common option when it comes to treating leaks of any type. The sealant uses a solution made from silicone which is extremely strong and elastic, meaning that it can not only effectively treat leaks, but it has the durability to stay in place for a long time. If you have excess silicone sealant which you want to remove in your caravan, there’s a product available which allows you to do this successfully and safely. Thing about leaks in a caravan, is that the water maybe travailing some distance from were the damp is showing. They have been established for nearly 40 years, allowing them to become well known in the industry for high-quality products. And their famous mastic sealing strip is a must-have in the repairs box. Leaks on the inside can be a lot easier to find than you may think, once you know what to look for. There will usually be tell-tale signs either on the ceiling or the walls in the form of water stains. It may be that you trace the leak from the caravan’s exterior. A high UV reflective rating will also mean that the sealant will reflect light and heat away from the surface, giving it added protection. This is even more important if you plan on using your caravan throughout the hotter summer months. You may also want to avoid buying a sealant that needs to be used with a primer or activator, which can incur additional costs and increase repair time. Primary Application As for the leak behind the toilet, I put a hose pipe around both the outside access panels to the toilet and several minutes later i had a pool of water running from under the toilet and across the floor ( caravan not level lol )

Details of removal instructions would be present in the manual for the sealant, but it’s normal for liquid sealants to be easier to remove because they don’t tend to dry hard. This versatile bedding sealant is suitable for a wide variety of joints found in caravan construction. You should run a final test by spraying water over the problem areas to make sure none seeps into the interior of your caravan. Looking at the pictures your water entry point would seem to be a very badly, if at all, sealed water inlet to the flush tank.Sikaflex is an incredibly popular range of adhesives and sealants from the huge company Sika. This is a name that always gets mentioned when caravan repairs are spoken about, so it would have been silly of us not to highlight some Sikaflex products on this list.

Can anyone advise me if they have used Sikaflex 221. I was under the assumption that this was a non setting mastic, and I plan to use it in the future. Choose from a selection of trusted products including Eternabond OneStep Roof Sealing Tape, J-B Weld All Purpose Sealant & Adhesive, Valterra Non Skid Tape, and more. Silicone sealant removers are most useful here as they work at breaking down the sealant and allowing you to remove it with ease.An important consideration is your sealants ability to change shape without affecting the protection that it can offer. This change in shape can be caused by expanding, contracting or twisting and tear resistance describes its ability to be able to undergo pressure and force without breaking and needing to be repaired.
