About this deal

Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum is a Yu-Gi-Oh! video game for the PlayStation 2, and a successor to Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule Breed and Battle and Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule GB.

As soon as this area has been cleared, lightning will strike in the sky and the clouds will become dark purple; the inspiring music also changes to a more ominous theme. Two orbs of light will twirl out of the sky and hit the ground, causing a towering fortress to emerge with a large gem shining on top of it. Both the Pharaoh and Yugi realize this is the new path Joey had spoken about before, meaning that the strongest opponents of the Capsule Monster Tournament wait within it. Note that some characters appear more than once within the game as opponents once you reach the King Coliseum.) Unintentionally Unwinnable: It's possible, in a match, to end up with pieces that can only move in certain patterns against one that manages to evade them perfectly no matter how hard you try to box it in. Since the A.I. doesn't know when to quit, they'll happily continue to avoid your pieces with it, despite being unable to do anything else. In such cases, the only way to end the match would be to surrender or let the AI destroy your Symbol. As soon as this area has been cleared, lightning will strike in the sky and the clouds will become dark purple; the inspiring music also changes to more ominous theme. Two orbs of light will twirl out of the sky and enter the ground, causing a towering fortress to emerge with a large gem shining on top of it. Both the Pharaoh and Yugi realize this is the new path Joey had spoken about before, meaning that the strongest opponents of the Capsule Monster Tournament wait within it. Yami Yugi leaves and moves on to defeat Tristan, Tea, Duke Devlin, and Grandpa, clearing the first area. Duke and Grandpa prove to be skilled by choosing their land map and monsters to cover weaknesses while Tristan and Tea prove easier to beat due to inexperience. Tristan's stage introduces areas on a land map that can damage certain monster types that are not suitable for it. Tea's stage introduces occasional changes the map that occur the longer the match is drawn out; hers is a harmless snowfall and loss of Light power-up. Some monsters can only be obtained through fusion. When monsters fuse, they become a different, Level 1 monster. The original monsters are lost permanently. In the second arena, Yami Yugi defeats Weevil Underwood, Rex Raptor, Mai Valentine, Mako Tsunami, and Mokuba Kaiba. Rex and Mokuba also have fields that can damage monsters; however, Mokuba's is attribute-specific. Mai proves the hardest to beat due to her strategic choice of monster types. Though Mokuba is confident in his skills (see Volume 3 of the manga), Yugi beats him and learns that his archrival Seto Kaiba is in the tournament as well. Awesome, but Impractical: While they are undeniably powerful, focusing primarily on the high power, high MP cost monsters will limit the amount of monsters that you can actually bring into battle below the maximum amount that you can deploy. The sole exception to this is the Final Battle where you have unlimited MP and can bring out whatever monsters you please.

Kneel Before Zod: Losing to Marik makes him delighted to see the Pharaoh groveling before him. Bandit Keith mentions this as well, but tires of it and tells him to get lost. Better to Die than Be Killed: In-universe, having your Symbol destroyed is regarded as much less humiliating than losing all your monsters in battle. The Symbol Attribute Effect Rate is 101%. The Base Defense (DF) stat of 26 is affected by the LIGHT Symbol Attribute and the LIGHT Map Attribute: 26 x 100% x (20/100) x 101% = 5,252; 26 x 25% x (16/100) x 105% = 1,092. The values for Symbol and Map are rounded up and added separately. The result is 26 + 6 + 2 = 34. Support Party Member: Some monsters, such as Happy Lover, have unique abilities to heal or support your teammates.

Some monsters can only be obtained through fusing two or three monsters together. While some are intuitive, such as fusing three Harpie Ladies to make the Harpie Lady Sisters, others aren't. Just Toying with Them: If Marik destroys half of your monsters when you were winning, he'll claim he was only toying with you.

Your Symbol Attribute, the Land Form Attribute, and the Map Attribute can affect the monsters' stats. Up to 4 Map Attributes and up to 3 Land Form Attributes on a tile can be active at the same time. Each of these types of Attribute has an Effect Strength that ranges from 0 (no effect) to 100 (full effect). The tables below list the effects at an AE Rate of 100% and an Effect Strength of 100 (+ minimum points) for uncapped effects or the maximum effect for capped effects. Duke, Marik, Yami Marik, Yami Bakura, Izhizu and Kaiba all have a stage where the field isn't contained in a box with the series logo. Ironic Echo: Losing or winning against Bandit Keith will have the victor say that the duel was over before it started. Upon the defeat of Kaiba, the player has successfully claimed the title of King of Capsule Monsters.

This game contains examples of:

Personality Powers: Many of the duelists' stages or monsters reflect something about them or their personality. Hot-tempered Joey has all Fire monsters, and the greedy Bandit Keith's stage is a treasure trove of stolen riches. Victor Gains Loser's Powers: After winning a fight, you can take 2 to 3 monsters from your opponent. Serious Business: Capsule Monsters is taken just as seriously as Duel Monsters, especially where Kaiba's concerned. Exodia the Forbidden One Level 2 + Right Arm Level 2 + Left Arm Level 2 + Right Leg Level 2 + Left Leg Level 2
