About this deal

Being a lightweight strimmer, with so many adjustable parts, the Terratek cordless trimmer was easy to use. However, it does vibrate considerably, which is a bit of a concern. Handle types. There are two types of strimmer handles. The most common is a round, circular handle on the shaft of the strimmer, called a loop handle. It makes the strimmer easy and comfortable to control, and on the best models, it can be slid up and down the shaft, so you can adjust it to your height. Alternatively, there are ‘steer’ handles - two handles rather than a loop. These offer more control and let you use a comfortable scything motion when you cut, but they take up room, and can be a little more expensive. They’re also far more common on brushcutters and petrol strimmers than electric or cordless strimmers, so you might not find steer handles on many domestic models.

As with a lot of things, personal preference will likely dictate whether you choose a mains-powered or battery-powered strimmer. It also depends on the job you are doing, whether you need slightly more power with a mains-powered option, or prioritise the freedom of cordless tools. This strimmer’s cutting head swivels 90° in either direction and inclines to 5 different positions. This is especially useful if your garden has lots of nooks and crannies, paths, walkways, flowerbeds, ornamental shrubberies and the like. This strimmer comes with a 20 V 2.5 Ah lithium ion battery that gives it a run time of around 33 minutes. This is fairly accurate although you may find it drains faster in denser areas. Battery-powered strimmers are lighter and do not make too much noise. They make use of fast-charging lithium-ion batteries for effective operations. However, they are more expensive and not as powerful as petrol engines. The WORX GT 3.0 would be considered a mid-range cordless trimmer. It costs a little more than some of the budget options, but it’s not as pricey as high-end models. Nevertheless, it offers just as many, if not more, features as several of the high-end strimmers out there. For this reason, it’s one of the best cordless strimmers overall.

Unless it’s a 4-stroke engine, you have to mix the oil and petrol yourself. Make the mixture too rich, the engine won’t run smoothly. Don’t make it rich enough and it hiccups, runs in fits and starts, and performs poorly Always rake through long grass or undergrowth first, before using cordless grass trimmers. This gives hedgehogs, frogs, toads, grass snakes, newts, mice and all our native wildlife a chance to escape.

Having just used the Einhell Power X-Change 18V Cordless Strimmer, I must say I’m impressed by its lightweight and ergonomic design. It’s comfortable to hold and manoeuvre, which makes trimming the grass a breeze. The telescopic handlebar and adjustable additional handle with soft grip ensure full flexibility in every corner of the garden.

You’ll need to choose between two types of cutting mechanism: cutting line or cutting blades. Choose cutting blades for convenience . Particularly if you’ve grown tired of feeding the cutting line through when it breaks. Cutting blades need to be changed after every few hours of use. This machine has a harness so that you can be more comfortable during operations. It has a split shaft, and that is why you won’t have issues moving it from one place to another. You will like its power-to-weight ratio, which is very high and that is why you should expect optimum performance at all times. Its lightweight petrol strimmer is a plus making it easier for you to manoeuvre.

Protective clothing such as ear defenders for louder motors with more power can be useful, particularly if the job is going to take a while. This is particularly relevant for a petrol strimmer, but certain electric trimmers can also be very loud. This trimmer has a large foot pedal that allows you to easily adjust the modes. The plant guard protects plants and shrubs from damage while you work, and the 25 cm cutting width allows you to be as efficient as possible.

With its low-emission performance, this machine does not consume too much fuel. It comes with an AutoCut mowing head, loop handle, and bent shaft so that you can trim around obstacles and small grass areas with ease. Its multifunctional thumb-operated control handle is a plus, and that is why no one can dispute the ease of operation associated with this machine. A single string trimmer, it’s not quite as powerful as a heavy duty double string version, but it is strong enough to trim heavy grasses and weeds without complaint. It also boasts an auto line feed system, which means you don’t waste so much string like you would on an older style “bump” feed trimmer. Also, ear defenders can be essential to protect your ears from the noise produced by the petrol engine. You should also get the right footwear to prevent sharp objects on the floor from injuring you. Getting a pair of gloves is also a good idea so that you can achieve extra grip and guide your hands against being injured by thorns and brambles. Often, corded electric strimmers need to be used with an extension lead in the garden, and this can be a lot of effort. By comparison, a cordless trimmer save a lot of hassle. Ultimately, if the strimmer is easy to use, you’ll be more likely to get it out the shed.It comes with a spool head of the tap variety: rather than feeding out extra line automatically, you release thread by tapping the spool head on the ground. Because the tap mechanism is simpler, there’s less to go wrong, making it more reliable than its counterpart. Controlling the frequency and amount of thread that’s played out also means that it’s more economical. Pros: While I was disappointed with the strimmer’s ability to handle dense vegetation, its battery life impressed me. It came with two batteries, each one 1500 mAh. Initially, I didn’t expect much from them, but each one lasted for 30 minutes – just as long as larger batteries from other brands. The fact that there were two of them meant that this strimmer gave me the longest run time of all (an hour in total).
