About this deal

Shireen’s latest book confirms her as one of the brightest and best picture book creators working in Britain today ... Sensational.' ― Observer A Bigfoot is on the loose! Ted, Nancy, Willow and the rest of the Grimwood gang must embark on their greatest adventure yet to save their home from a nasty, thieving stink monster. Monster hunters are GO! All life includes loss. It's taken me many, many years to learn to deal with that, and I don't expect I'll ever be fully resigned to it. But that doesn't mean we have to turn away from the world, or stop striving for the best that we can do and be. We owe that much to ourselves, at least, and we deserve whatever measure of good may come of it.”

An easy read funny book for mid primary aged students. Ted and Nancy a fox cub siblings tying to survive in the Big City with older sister Nancy the strong a fearsome protector, and Ted the quiet, nervous and cautious younger brother who desperately wants a friend but is too scared to go out and find one. This was a little bit 'different'. We've loved Shireen's picture books (all of them) and saw her name on this and wanted to try a book for the older ages.

Easily the best kids book I've read in a long, long time. I mean, it's straight up one of the funniest books I've ever read.

This starts off cute enough with orphan foxes (well that’s kinda sad), and we learn that the young sibling foxes have a feud with the neighborhood cats. Ok, I can hang with that…what I can’t hang with is the name calling hurling insults, threats of physical violence and then the ACTUAL violence. In the process of this fued, the cat “looses” (by way of the fox) her tail and it gets nailed to the wall of the foxes den. Then the appendage is used to tease the cat and ultimately distract the cat while a bird comes down and decapitates said cat. WHAT?! WHY?!Grimwood is where I want to be. A carnival of crazed confused comical critters that is more real than real life. Lots of things make me laugh but Grimwood makes me laugh out loudest.' Grimwood is where I want to be. A carnival of crazed confused comical critters that is more real than real life. Lots of things make me laugh but Grimwood makes me laugh out loudest.' It doesn't really matter what the plot is, though the foxes are trying to keep out of the cat's way and must use any new friends they have to help them. The point is that it's a funny trip into an animal world of quirky silliness, with the narrator taking great pleasure in all the voices.

Grimwood is a forest far, far, faaaaar away. It’s full of trees and sky and mud and stones. It smells weird and there’s loads of litter and old shopping trolleys. But it’s also FUN and GREAT and it’s where scruffy fox cub siblings from the Big City, Ted and Nancy, have made their home with their crazy new gang of woodland friends. When two young foxes who have no parents around are just going about their daily lives, they could never guess at just how much trouble could come from biting down on what appeared to be a hot dog. Ultimately this book sees the two foxes move from their inner city life and head to the forests of Grimwood with no idea on what exactly to expect as they are simply given a map and told to head there following the hot dog incident. In Grimwood there are numerous animal friends and foes to be met and it is a great adventure for the foxes themselves but also for the reader too.
