About this deal

So yeah, 2021's My Husband's Killer Girlfriend is my latest write-up. It's about a nanny who frames a woman for leaving her small daughter unattended. And yup, the pseudo nanny just happens to be the lady friend of the woman's ex-hubby. Basically it takes about twenty minutes (and a misplaced edit) before you realize that My Husband's Killer Girlfriend means just what it means. The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, after she had heard the plaintiff, adjourned the case till December 12.

All of the actors played their roles believably, and the script covered a lot of ground. I didn't notice any gaping plot holes...which any Lifetime frequent watcher knows is almost never the case. I did think it was strange that Leah and Adam didn't fight over their kid, but for some reason she had to hide her work trip from him. It didn't make sense to me that Emma couldn't stay with Adam and perhaps in their situation, a nanny would work full-time for both homes anyway. I think it was meant to infer Leah perceived he would pounce on any chance to pursue custody, and to of course set up this movie, but it was a little murky to understand. When they explained the divorce, it really just sounded like stubbornness on both of their parts. Anyway, after Adam's initial disbelief at the situation, I liked that he didn't believe Leah to be capable of that which she was accused. I liked how he realized immediately when Valerie/Lisa lied and he was on board with his wife from that point. There was so much happening already that keeping them at odds was unnecessary drama, particularly since it was their daughter and they were both manipulated. If the movie had more time, it would be interesting to see if over the course of his relationship with Lisa whether or not things with Leah deteriorated. I also liked that they clarified he met Lisa after the divorce. Lifetime likes to make men cheaters, and there was enough going on w/o that. Todd is an an improbably good-looking, rich American with whom it transpired she’d been having an affair for some time, a betrayal of his best friend that Andrew – and I, if I’m honest - have struggled to come to terms with. Alright, darling?’ Saffie presses her cheek to mine and I breathe in a waft of her perfume, heady with jasmine. Trina gives me a brief hug, all angles and bones – she’s definitely lost weight. Oluwatoyin in her testimony said, “My husband threw me and our children out last year after he almost sent me to an early grave by constantly beating me.Afterwards, we gather in the village hall. The weather is still unpleasantly oppressive, but inside the hall, the atmosphere is lighter now the worst bit is out of the way – or the worst bit for everybody else at least. For me, it’s only the beginning. Leah calls Adam to warn him and rushes to the hospital to protect her daughter. Oh, wait, she stops at Adam’s house first and tells him what she has found out. Adam is on board with his ex-wife, and they rush to save their daughter together. (Romantic?) On the way, Adam calls Cathy and apologizes to her. That isn’t going work. Based on the book of the same title by Sandra Harvey and Lindsay Simpson, the teleplay raises some interesting aspects in the Croatian heritage of Kalajzich, now living in the Australian waterside suburb of Manly, where Andrew is the manager of a 5 star international hotel. The treatment claims that the Kalajzich marriage is a loveless one, with Andrew entertaining a major affair with his secretary, Marlene Watson (Lucy Bell). Murder is favored over divorce as the family considers divorce is `shameful' and murder is more cost effective, with an assumption that Megan would demand half of her husband's assets in a settlement. However, the title is also a misnomer, since Megan remains a cipher, and the narrative is mostly the police's point of view. Whilst the Kalajzich's family grief is presented as laughable silent meals, the teleplay also includes the domestic life of Detective Bob 'Snake' Inkster (Colin Friels) presumably in contrast, with Inkster's wife even contributing some strategic advice. We meet Liz, whose husband, Andrew, has recently been killed in a tragic accident, while they were on holiday in Italy with friends. But Liz is left even more bereft, when she finds evidence that her husband may have been having an affair on the day of his funeral. It puts Liz in an impossible situation. How can she mourn Andrew now, when all she can think of is the idea of Andrew cheating on her? Will she ever find out what was going on now that he’s dead?

He is married to Liz and his best friend friend is Owen who is secretly carrying a torch for someone and Andrew has secrets of his own Thanks.’ I’m aware I sound stilted but I hope she’ll put it down to grief. ‘Who are those lot, do you know?’ I indicate a small group of men in mostly ill-fitting suits chatting quietly amongst themselves. We arrived at a villa on the Amalfi Coast, ready to enjoy a sun-soaked weekend with our oldest friends – and one new face.

Cut to a sunny divorced suburban mother, Leah Watts. She is in search of an emergency weekend nanny for her daughter Emma. Valerie, a woman in a bad wig and glasses, waiting for her glow-up, shows up for an interview. Leah is impressed with Valerie’s references and hires her on the spot. The police suspect Leah of wrongdoing and arrest her for felony theft and child neglect. She begs Adam to stand up for her, but he doesn’t know what to believe. The police show Leah a picture of Valerie, and it isn’t the woman Leah hired. All Leah has is a disconnected phone number and a blurry picture as evidence.

Liz herself was a likeable enough character, which certainly can't be said for all the rest of the group - one is particularly loathsome. I did feel for her, not only navigating the aftermath of her husband's presumed death but also dealing with revelations which call into question whether he really was the man she always thought him to be. This book although compelling, for me the characters were all unlikeable. They all fly off to the Amalfie coast to stay with Staffie and Todd. We fight almost all the time because he rarely ever gave me and our children feeding allowance. He was nonchalant towards our survival. It was also too implausible that ALL the charges against Leah would be dropped and that the insurance fraud by the computer expert would be so conveniently forgotten to ensure that Hallmark-style happy ending. This book felt like friendship school drama poured and moulded into the real life drama mixed with friend holiday drama. This lowkey feels like the typical holiday drama meets death kinda book.

The school authorities later wrote the establishment where I work that I owe them the amount of N106, 000 as our children’s school fees and demanded to have it paid under two weeks. The Landell Trust, a charity which supports Liz through the whole missing-husband trauma, sounded like a real thing and I was a bit surprised that - at least according to Google - it doesn't actually exist. While on holiday things bubble and one of the party ends up dead. His widow is convinced he was having an affair before he died and that it was with one of her friends. The truth is even more bizarre!
