How do I add Schema markup?

Postby GSmyth » Wed Nov 11, 2015 2:30 pm

Hi all - What kind of code should I add to text in a product description, to make is stand out more in search engines? I believe Schema markup would be useful if your product provides a solution to a problem that people are searching for via a long-tail keyword. Thanks

This MOZ thread should answer your questions about schema. It also contains some possibly useful extensions: https://moz.com/community/q/schema-markup-for-magento

You can also have a look at this mod https://amasty.com/magento-google-rich-snippets.html

Of course, such markup can be added to Magento by coding, but using extensions is much easier and safe IMHO.

Schema markup is code (semantic vocabulary) that you put on your website to help the search engines return more informative results for users.

Structured data markup" is a standard way to interpret your content so machines can understand it. When your web pages include structured data markup, Google (and other search engines) can use that data to index your content better, present it more prominently in search results, and surface it in new experiences like voice answers, maps, and Google Now.

Schema will help your products stand out in the SERPs by showing the price and whether or not the product is in stock. If your product has reviews, then it might get a star rating as well.

A number of Magento extensions add schema functionality. The Mirsavit Advanced SEO Suite extension is one (it's a bit pricey at USD$149, but it is reliable and does a whole lot of other stuff too.)

To get your products to really stand out in the SERPs, also look at including your top performing keywords in your meta descriptions: That way, your keywords will be highlighted when customers search for them.
