This book has an old-fashioned approach to colour and stitch that works well although I think that rather too much has been crammed into it to do justice to the delightful work.
Well, of course I’m carrying it. I love all of Elisabetta’s books, and I’m happy to have them available for you in my shop! When deciding to take on an embroidery project, you have many options. The books featured in this buying guide will help you create any embroidery project you can imagine. They present a wide variety of techniques and options for finished projects. The photograph on the front of this book definitely possesses the wow factor, and invites the reader to delve into a colorful world of enjoyable stitching pleasure. Perhaps a better name for it could be The Crazy Patchwork Book as this is what the book is mostly about; using the 149 stitches and ideas to decorate scraps of fabric sewn together. This is not exactly a primer, as there are no step-by-step projects in here but that is not the aim of the book. Instead you are given the tools to create your own masterpiece, by which I mean stitch diagrams, lots of examples and information about how the finished pieces have been made. Amberley Kemp from the Stitch Club team also recommends this book: ‘The Left-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion is an absolute lifeline for left-handed stitchers as the majority of materials out there are geared towards those who are right-handed. And from my teaching experience, it’s not easy to teach how to do a stitch with your left hand when you are right-handed.’ If you are a fan of floral motifs, if you like decorative alphabets, if you yearn to stitch beautiful linens and other useful items, if you’re keen on realistic and somewhat dimensional embroidery, if you love having guidance with assembling a variety of color palettes, this book is for you! Not to leave out the right-handed stitchers, Yvette has also written the Right-Handed Embroiderer’s Companion. These books also give guidance on how to put stitches together to create a beautiful finished project. Different options included in the buying guide run the gamut from traditional embroidery techniques to more modern approaches. Some present stitches which can be used to embellish garments and home decor, while other patterns are meant to be used to create wall hangings and projects that are truly works of art in their own right. Many of these books give step by step instructions for both creating individual stitches and putting them together to create larger motifs. Whichever book from this guide you choose, it will help you expand your embroidery skills, whether you are just beginning or have a great deal of experience already. This is an unusual and rather charming book. It describes itself as a Visual Resource of Colour& Design. It takes readers through the basics of fabrics, stabilizers and embellishments, all colourfully depicted with well-illustrated examples.

There’s a full alphabet with roses (6 cm or 2.3 inches tall), 14 decorative motifs (scrolls, garlands) that can be adapted to other projects, instructions for embroidering the drawings with diagrams for all the stitches, and 12 different color interpretations.Both of these straightforward stitch dictionaries feature clear step-by-step instructions, photographs and diagrams which are simple to follow. They include over 170 stitches, including a large range of surface stitches. Elisabetta sets her book in an imaginary setting that helps deliver a certain “mood” to the whole book. It’s quite nice and poetic! There’s a somewhat romantic sense here that lends itself well to these designs.
