About this deal

Additional Accessories: Get straight into the game with a double-sided game mat, a Kill Team token sheet containing 85 tokens, and 10 dice. Beneath lies the (somewhat plain) divider, designed to keep the pointy bits of your sprues from damaging the books and other paper goodies that lie beneath. Mine has a couple of holes in this time – you can see the largest on the guardsman’s right shoulder. This box follows the design that’s been the norm for 40K and AOS starter sets in the latest editions: There’s an emphasis on “starter” here.

Trying to create a price/value breakdown for the new Kill Team: Starter Set is quite difficult. Usually, when we put together these lists for boxes that contain things like exclusive miniatures, we look at the faction the miniature is from and figure out a like-for-like. The Imperial Ruins scenery in Kill Team can be combined to make high ruins, or left apart to spread across the battlefield. Kommando Boy - The standard Kommando, good for filling out the kill team's ranks and handy in melee combat with their decent damage choppa.Like all the other expansions for this edition of Kill Team, Chalnath was only available for a limited time. It included: Play on a smaller play space with fewer models to reduce the choices players can agonize over. I suggest half a board with three space marines each. Whilst it’s clear that the Kill Team Starter Set is excellent value (I mean, the price of the box is cheaper than buying both the Ork Kommandos and Veteran Guardsmen kits together), please takes these pricings/savings with a pinch of salt. There’s a lot of guesswork involved here, and comparing the much smaller Mini Core Rules that comes in the Starter Set with the Core Book available separately is a bit of a leap – even if we do leave the Recruit Edition book unpriced/include it in the value ascribed to the Core Rules book. Not a board this time, I’m afraid, but a mat. Printed on glossy paper, the gaming mat that comes with the Kill Team Starter Set won’t have the longevity of one of the gaming board that are occasionally released in these kinds of boxes. The paper is much more likely to tear and will have some fairly prominent fold lines in it when laid out flat. I haven’t been able to unfold mine and fit it in my lightbox (as usual), but here’s a picture of it folded so you can get an idea of what you’re getting.

A Dash action is like a Normal Move, but you can only move up to 3 inches/one square. The point of this action is that, since it’s not called the same as a Normal Move, it can be used in the same activation as that for a bit of extra movement. The rules for this team can be found in the Moroch book. You can read our guide for these traitorous guardsmen here. Elucidian StarstridersBut I have to admit, I don’t think the book actually does a brilliant job of making the game as accessible as it could do.

fighting the Close Quarters battles of the Into the Dark season, as well as for the missions and campaign scenarios specific to the Into the Dark box (read our campaign guide here)In the wider galaxy, operatives are converging on the Gallowdark , a legendary space hulk newly-emerged from the warp. The next big expansion to the game is Kill Team: Into the Dark – it’s your chance to join the first wave of boarders as they seek treasure, glory, or just try to escape with their lives!

Bruiser Veteran - A melee-focused veteran that can ignore the first successful damage during combat, and also has a trench club with a slightly higher damage output than a bayonet and the stun special rule. The Blooded are an amazing evil twin to the Veteran Guardsmen team of the original Octarius box, and the Phobos team is sort of a blend between how teams were done in the Compendium book and how they’ve been done in the expansions (you can even take models in the Phobos team that aren’t in this expansion set!). Killzones (Terrain Sets) for Kill Team Killzone Upgrade: Gallowfall Learning to play Kill Team is a doddle with the help of three video tutorials that’ll teach you the ins and outs of the ultimate sci-fi skirmish game.Kommando Breacha Boy - The Breacha boy is a hard-hitting melee combatant. They can smash through small pieces of scenery, and pummel their opponents with their hard to parry ram. The rules for this kill team can be found in the Gallowfall book or in Kill Team Annual 2023. You can read our guide for these stout explorers here. Fellgor Ravager Open Play is the most free-form mode of play. It gives you very basic rules for setting up your mission, and then basically tells you to do whatever seems the most fun to you. There’s no ongoing narrative or complex scoring system, but the Core Book has a list of ideas for how to choose interesting house rules that make your games fun and varied.
