Kids especially will love the littlest penguin, Pog! Throughout the story, he asks, “Can we have our picnic?” Another time he announces, “I need a wee.” Finally, eagle-eyed readers will discover that the mischievous Pog is responsible for the surprise ending(s). These will be done under the guidance/correction and motivation from a qualified Nordic Walking and First Aid Trained Instructor. A fascinating and thought-provoking analysis of the divisions between us, how we bridge them, how we reshape the world - and ourselves too. Essential reading.' It is a little on the longer side, text wise, but it would work for preschoolers and elementary students who can sit through longer stories. A funny and heartwarming bedtime story that proves it's not about the destination but the journey itself. We do warm-up exercises before the session and cool-down stretches after our Nordic Walk. The warm-ups and cool-downs are slightly different and slower paced than other sessions, to allow participants more time to transition between each exercise/stretch. All my life I have been an impassioned advocate of technology. I believed it could connect the whole world, which it has largely done. What I and many others failed to see, was how those connections would then be used to divide and polarise us - for commercial and political gain. This is endangering our social institutions and democracy on which our dreams were based. It turns our own lives and sometimes, families, to the poles - into warzones. This is a pivotal moment for this book to be written, read and understood. Peter Gabriel, musician Meeting Point: Pavilion Café. There is some limited parking there as well (although not shown on the map).I'm a huge fan of Fallis' earlier writing, especially "Best Laid Plans." But, this book was pretty bad both in concept and in writing. Yes, Poles Apartis silly and slightly bonkers! This is precisely why kids enjoy it: It’s a lot of fun!

When he arrives at the hospital he thinks that he recognizes a lady and eventually he knows who it is. She is Beverly Tanner, an advocate for equality. Looking for a speaker on polarisation? Keen to hear more about navigating division? Get in touch or watch previous events on demand. These training sessions are for Nordic Walkers who would like to focus on increasing their pace and endurance, over longer distances. One of the aims will be for everyone to walk a minimum of 10 km's in the session. For those that are building up to the full 10km's, the session will be managed to enable you to Nordic at an appropriate pace and reduce the distance if required.

But who is the Eve behind Eve of Equality? Well... not who you might think. Meet Everett Kane, aspiring writer and fervent feminist. He writes his erudite blog in his apartment, at his kitchen table, conveniently but unexpectedly located right above one of the aforementioned XY strip clubs. I don't imagine I'll ever understand the appeal of Terry Fallis. Even when he's on the side of the angels (sort of?) by writing a pro-feminist (sort of?) book, he's a garbage pile of a writer. OH! And, I forgot the best part (and by best, I mean catastrophically bad). That bow tying up where Everett gets the girl? Well, he has to stalk her by donning a costume to pressure a receptionist (including by giving her flowers) into disclosing where his love interest now works. Then he stalks her over there, literally hoping for a rom-com ending... AND GETS IT. He interrupts her from seeing her clients, and Megan admits that she really knew deep down inside that Everett was a good guy. Low and behold, they start dating almost immediately and live happily ever after. Did a woman ever read this manuscript before approval??

Everett, a dual citizen of the US and Canada and writer of magazine ads and other small things, has reached his thirties and has not been able to keep a relationship going. When his father becomes ill in his retirement in Florida, Everett sets out to be with him and spend time with him in the rehab hospital. I don't think the countries are explored or explained very well, but it might give you a jumping off point for young readers. I mean, if they can learn to visually identify the Sydney Opera House (and they don't live in Australia), I think that's a win. Perhaps the book will give them ideas about traveling, which is good. In Australia we get: g'day, faster, fun, and bonzer. We get jet-skiing. We get the Sydney Opera House. We get ... ... Wait, that's it. Meeting Point: St Mary's Church (Pavement in-front of St Mary's main church access), Church Rd, Wallington SM6 7NJ. Cold weather – As well as layers of warm clothing, bring 'thin' gloves (not ski type gloves as you wear wrist straps) and a hat if the weather is cold. You will warm-up due to the cardiovascular nature of the class, but we are in Great Britain and on some days the 'fresh' breezes can keep the temperature down.

Think of it as a big adventure. I have often dreamt of being the first polar bear to reach the South Pole…” Willis is well known for her dry wit, and there’s plenty of it in Poles Apart. Little quips and asides are a treat for parents and older kids, while younger siblings can enjoy the tale on a more superficial level. The jokes extend to the illustrations too – for example, the bespectacled Mr P-B is holding the map upside down… Uh-oh! This is a light-hearted session, in which you’ll learn the correct set-up of the poles for you, we’ll provide an overview of the benefits of Nordic Walking, and differences from ordinary walking/hiking, as well as teaching you the technique basics, to get you out trying your first Nordic walk, to see if it's something you might enjoy. This is a FREE session (poles provided) and is designed for those new to Nordic Walking. You will receive support, technique guidance/correction and motivation from a qualified Nordic Walking and First Aid Trained Instructor. We do warm-up exercises before the session and cool-down stretches after our Nordic Walk.

I haven't read his last couple books, but my wife got me started on 'Poles Apart,' and I usually start what I finish. And what I finished was more of what I expected.

This book is lovely. It has beautiful illustrations and is just beautifully written. It follows the story of a polar bear and penguins who meet despite living poles apart. Poles Apartis silly, lighthearted fun! (I mean that respectfully: the writing and illustrations are top-notch!) And I think it’s what families – or at least, you grown-ups –could do with right now.A little escape from the heartbreaking 24-hour news cycle.
