To start recording, press the red button two times. If you press only once, you will see a blinking light, and you will be in “record pause” – in record pause, you aren’t yet recording. The Zoom H5 is modular, rugged, and versatile, with great sound quality and dual XLR inputs. If that’s all you need, the Zoom H5 would be a great investment.
We bought this audio device for our NGO to capture audio on the go for our videos, interviews, podcasts and also in a booth to record voice over using XLR inputs. And for this price we just could not find anything that would match zoom h5 in its usability, audio quality and portability. As of right now you probably won't find anything better! It is important to format your SD card before recording to ensure that it is clear of other data and compatible with the Zoom. Note: Formatting erases all current data. Verify that all important contents are accessible at another location (your computer, external hard drive, etc.) before formatting. Zero Handling noise thanks to the material the unit is made, XLRs just make the job with no complaints at all. This was presumably measured without any external microphones connected to the devices. Bear in mind that connecting two microphones to the H5, or four to the H6, will lower the battery life, especially if you are using phantom power.
What type of content do you want to stream? For example, Twitch hosts a lot of gaming streams, while YouTube and Facebook have large lifestyle streaming communities. Set up your camera either at eye level or at a slight downward angle (from the top of your computer monitor, for instance). Upward angles tend to be unflattering, so use a tripod to raise your camera’s height if your desk is too low. Bear in mind that your lav mic might require 2.5V plugin power, which the Zoom H5 can provide. This can be done by going into Menu, In/Out, Plugin Power, and then selecting On. The same applies to Phantom Power, if you’re using a condenser microphone which needs it.
