Then the tile is added to your quilt board. It can be flipped and rotated any which way you like so long as it fits within the confines of the board. If the placement of the tile completes a 7×7 area on your quilt board and you are the first to do so, then you receive the bonus tile. This tile is kept with your button supply and will be worth an extra 7 points at the end of the game. The bonus tile can’t be spent in place of buttons. Button, Button. Who’s Got the Button?Try to leave some space for larger tiles towards the end of the game. At the start of the game you will not have enough buttons to buy the larger tiles. By the end of the game you will want them to fill in spaces but they can be awkward shapes and sizes so bear this in mind when building your grid. Patchwork plays fast, the instructions are fairly simple, and the game does not imply lots of strategy and deep thinking. However, doing well in Patchwork is not that easy. Many patches have peculiar shape, which is something you have to take into account while building your quilt. If it is uneven and there are blank spaces, you will lose points. I don’t recommend overcomplicating things, really – enjoy a jigsaw for what it is. Therapy. You could print out a picture or even look at it online, but we like challenging ourselves to put it together bit by bit. For no real reason. It’s a gentle brain exercise.
The central time board is placed in the middle of the playing table and then place both players time tokens on the starting space. Choose who goes first (or the player who last used a needle starts)! Patchwork is a 2 player game. Your job is to make the best patchwork quilt on your game board with a 9×9 grid.
Game Components
At first glance Patchwork is an easygoing game about stitching fabric squares together to make a patchwork quilt. Klemens Franz’s usage of bright colors and bold, vivid patterns coupled with many people’s ideas about quilting being a tranquil hobby are the things that help create this illusion. It isn’t until you begin playing that you discover just how devious and cutthroat this game really is. And if that sounds like a bad thing, trust me, it isn’t. It’s one of Patchwork’s finest selling points.
