About this deal

Along with detectives Rebecca Pankhurst and Nicky Bailey, his team is focused on following Detective Jerry Summers, a young officer whose lifestyle exceeds his income. Newly promoted to Detective Inspector, William Warwick is tasked with a dangerous new line of work, to go undercover and expose crime of another kind: corruption at the heart of the Metropolitan Police Force.

William Warwick, now a Detective Inspector, is tasked with a dangerous new line of work, to go undercover and expose crime of another kind: corruption at the heart of the Metropolitan Police Force. And William’s wife Beth, now a mother to twins, renews an old acquaintance who appears to have turned over a new leaf, or has she? The good news is that tea importer Assem Rashidi, who imports a lot more than tea, is finally in custody and that nefarious financier Miles Faulkner is on the run. Anyway, the partners complement each other: Taylor is the more rational and level-headed, while Brodie blatantly disregards jurisdictional boundaries when he needs to. In the third instalment in the life of Detective William Warwick, following on from Hidden in Plain Sight, international bestseller Jeffrey Archer once again displays his mastery at the art of storytelling. But as a personal relationship develops with a member of William’s team, it threatens to compromise the whole investigation. Two stories, intertwined into a most unlikely scenario, covering a book that is far less voluminous than previous books. Jeffrey Archer is one of the world’s favourite storytellers and has topped the bestseller lists around the world in a career spanning four decades. The complications that follow—WPC Nicola Bailey, assigned to watch over DS Jerry Summers, a suspected underworld contact, gets so close to her target that they end up in bed, and Faulkner survives reports of his death and cremation to attend his own funeral, the beneficiary of some plastic surgery so expert that the only attendee to give him a second glance is Booth Watson, QC—are both more shapeless and more flatly incredible. S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Harry Vance slips out of his lover’s bed for a mysterious nighttime meeting.

I am glad that the author saw the possibility of a crime series based on a detective introduced in novels written by the lead character in The Clifton Chonicles. Second in the military crime series featuring Special Agents Scott Brodie and Magnolia "Maggie" Taylor, after The Deserter (2019).Characters you can really warm to, others you hate with a vengeance, good plots and twists in the tale (sorry! Jeffrey is married with two sons and three grandchildren, and lives in London, Cambridge and Majorca. The partners deliver a few punchlines of their own in this fast-moving story that’s replete with twists and danger. He served five years as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons and has served twenty-seven years as a Member of the House of Lords.

This series is not overly fast paced like some thrillers but the writing and the storyline filled with likeable and conniving characters kept me engaged. Jeffrey is also an art collector and amateur auctioneer, and has raised more than GBP50m for different charities over the years. Biography: Jeffrey Archer is one of the world's favourite storytellers and has topped the bestseller lists around the world in a career spanning four decades. The mounting evidence of ever more and ever worse skulduggery will pull Tempe deeper and deeper down what even she sees as a rabbit hole before she confronts a ringleader implicated in “Drugs. But Summers develops a personal relationship with a WPC on William’s team and the investigation hangs in the balance. And William's wife Beth, now a new mother to twins, makes a surprising new friend in Christina Faulkner--the ex-wife of William's former rival, criminal financier Miles - who has not only turned over a new leaf, but also has a new-found source of income when Faulkner dies suddenly of a heart attack and she stands to be sole inheritor of his estate. I find I can’t put the book down when I start and am then disappointed when I get through them so fast and have to wait for the next one! Co-authors Nelson DeMille and his son Alex have created interesting characters, though Brodie might be the type that appears more in fiction than in the real world: About to be handcuffed by a pair of armed men, he “suddenly spun around and delivered a ball-busting kick, under the guy’s ballistic vest, and into his non-ballistic balls.

On foreign soil, “officially and legally” they cannot gather evidence, question witnesses, or make arrests. Meanwhile, a notorious drug baron goes on trial, with the prosecution case led by William’s father and sister. A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been. What chance does oleaginous Watson have against Crown Prosecutor Sir Julian Warwick, William’s father, and his junior, William’s sister Grace, with William himself as star witness? Meanwhile, notorious drug baron Assem Rashidi goes on trial, defended by Booth Watson QC, while William's father Sir Julian and sister Grace lead the prosecution case. His team is focused on following Detective Jerry Summers, a young officer whose lifestyle appears to exceed his income. Even when you are looking for the twists he is so we’ll known for, Jeffrey Archer can still surprise at times. Whist there are many twists and turns in the story , it is very non-threatening and there is redemption for the main characters. The bad news is that no one can find any trace of Faulkner’s ill-gotten fortune, including his fabulous collection of old-master paintings, and that Rashidi’s engaged Booth Watson, Queen’s Counsel, as his barrister.
