About this deal

While Oral-B has partnered with schemes such as TerraCycle in some countries, it does not yet have its own recycling scheme for used brush heads or faulty products. Oral-B’s BEST EVER CLEAN with REVOLUTIONARY iO TECHNOLOGY for a professional purifying clean feeling & gentle brushing experience After spending 12 years in consumer technology, it was in 2014 that he focused his attention on dental health, having experienced first-hand the challenge of choosing a new toothbrush. Oral-B is an established player within the oral care sector and their electric toothbrushes are on the whole reliable.

Used correctly, a manual toothbrush is perfectly satisfactory, but electric brushes have a number of benefits that no manual brush is able to match. Oral-B has decades of experience that have gone into making the iO4’s brushing results as good as they are.Combines the unique round brush head from Oral-B with gentle micro-vibrations for a fresh, clean mouthfeel and 1% healthier gums in one week vs. a regular manual toothbrush Where brushing performance is concerned, the iO4 is brilliant, like all the Oral-B iO brushes. The range is expensive but if you aren’t too worried about the frills, the iO4 is the cheapest way to get an iO with smart features. Most importantly, what you can expect is excellent brushing performance. We think that iO models are significantly better than classic Oral-B brushes. That’s really the reason to buy one.

Using it for a couple of weeks longer isn’t a major issue, but after 90 days the bristles are worn. This means less effective cleaning and the potential of being more abrasive on the teeth and gums. You can expect this to happen every 3 months as this is the recommended usage time for a brush head. A single Ultimate Clean head is included with the iO4. Alongside the Gentle Care head, it is one of our preferred options from the 4 different styles of iO brush heads available.

Emma is Group Home Tech Editor at Tech Advisor. She covers everything from kitchen appliances to smart home devices, from floor care to personal care to air care technology. She’s particularly interested in environmentally conscious brands and products that save people time and money. Redesigned for the iO Series, the magnetic brush motor produces a cleaning action which is noticeably softer and less intense, but still very satisfying. It’s possible to set the default colour of the indicator in the smartphone app – handy, if you have multiple iO brushes in the bathroom – while the pressure sensor makes its transition between blue, green and red, depending on whether you’re brushing too softly, brushing too firmly, or getting the pressure just right. A selling point of the iO range is the cleaner and more minimal handle design. It has what many, myself included, believe to be a premium vibe.

A recess in the base of the brush handle allows the protuberance on the top of the provided charging stand to fit inside. The charger is white in color with a 1.2 meter (4 foot) cable hardwired into it. Despite a real need to move to more sustainable approaches, it is common practice for electric brushes not to be user serviceable. The iO4 is no exception. I often describe Oral-B brushes as providing an intense and almost aggressive clean. It’s the best way I can describe the sensation of the round brush head passing over the teeth and gums. It can be quite satisfying, your teeth instantly feel cleaner, but I know it’s not a sensation everyone likes. Particularly if you are used to the softer experience given by sonic toothbrushes from the likes of Philips Sonicare or Colgate. FOR HEALTHIER GUMS IN JUST 1 WEEK remove 100% more plaque and even 2.5X in between teeth* with ORAL-B MOST ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY *vs a manual brush. There is potentially more e-waste generated as a result of the Bluetooth connectivity, but it’s not as bad as the handles in the range that have displays built in.

Incidentally, I’m comparing the iO4 with the other iO models so you know what you’re getting and where the compromises are, but really, I think that this brush has everything you need for really good dental care: good brushing performance, a timer and a pressure sensor. Performance The iO4 comes in a box that is perhaps a little bigger than it needs to be. But, it’s not terribly oversized. It’s easily recycled and in many instances, you are not getting lots of unnecessary extras included. On average, they operate at 10 decibels (dB) less. The iO4 registers a maximum of 64dB. But, on the sensitive mode, it was a couple of dB quieter still. Don’t fret if it takes some getting used to and you see the red light more often than you like. The motor will slow the bristle movements to further protect the teeth until such time the pressure is relieved.

While Oral-B has partnered with schemes such as TerraCycle, it does not yet have its own recycling scheme for used brush heads or faulty products. Most dental professionals, our in-house team included, only have a couple that they feel are really beneficial: a pressure sensor, timer and pacer. The iO4 has them. The best pressure sensor on toothbrushes today

There are eight models in the iO range, and this is the second most budget-friendly – and the cheapest to include smart features. Oral-B has expanded its range at both the top (the iO10) and bottom (the iO3 and 4) and the price difference between them is huge. The iO4 electric toothbrush features Oral-B’s best technology, combining a dentist-inspired round brush head with micro-vibrating bristles for a professional purifying clean feel at home. The Smart Pressure Sensor helps prevent you from brushing either too hard or too softly to better protect your gums. Gum Guard alerts you to time spent brushing with too much pressure. Replace your Oral-B iO toothbrush head every 3 months for the best results. Statistics would suggest that the vast majority of people fail to brush their teeth for anywhere near enough time to maximise plaque removal. Data such as brushing time are logged in the app and available for review in the future. You do too have some customization options for the handle.
