About this deal

EE, the UK’s most reliable network has partnered with Xplora to offer the X5 Play smartwatch. The smartwatch works via a dedicated app on a parent’s smartphone that lets them manage who their child can communicate with, as well as letting them set location alerts. What’s more, as a smartwatch, unlike a smartphone, it is harder for them to lose. In terms of what it actually delivered, it was 2.5-3 days and that was based on putting most of the key features to use. Making use of the phone features and the camera seem to cause the biggest drains. There's also leaderboards and virtual badges to reward hitting step milestones with nine badges in total up for grabs to keep them motivated.

This SIM card part has to be done first before you pair the watch up with your phone. Once the activation part is done, there's a QR code on the watch that's scanned by your phone to establish the connection between the two. If you’re getting fed up with nagging your children to be more active and healthy— don’t worry, the Ace 3 does it for you. It does this by setting your child the target to sleep nine hours a night and reach 10,000 steps a day, although you can alter these numbers if you so wish. It even gives them the goal to do 250 steps in an hour nine times per day— this is great as it breaks up the target of 10,000 steps and keeps your child engaged throughout the day. The second element is to set up the cellular features. In the UK version, we were provided with a nano SIM card from network Giffgaff, which is bundled in and is slipped into the Sim card compartment on the watch. It did also require being topped up to activate and get things up and running. My son found navigating the watch itself to be easy. There is a single button on the one side for turning on and off the screen as well as returning the home screen. There are no games or even a calculator app on the watch. In terms of apps, it is very barebones, even missing some that are advertised — more on that later. You'll find the phone and message apps along with one for the camera and photo gallery. There is an alarm app, a stopwatch, one for viewing the steps taken for the day, and settings — that's it. The providers that figure on our list of compatible providers have been extensively tested and we know that they work well with our watches. We have considerable experience with those providers and can easily put our finger on each problem. One of the main reasons for getting a connected smartwatch is for communication. Messaging works as expected on the Xplora X5 Play, although it's a little light on the number of available emoji compared to other smartwatches. The watch can also make calls, but the quality of the calls is not great. It seems as if the sensitivity level of the microphone is cranked all the way up.

I only wish that the app had as much effort put into it for as nice as the hardware is. It's not to say that the app looks bad or that it doesn't work; it just seems incomplete. For example, one area that doesn't work correctly is the step count. Specifically the fact that I can't see what the count is for today until tomorrow. When I open the app and look at steps, it always says zero. Tapping on it shows the weekly and monthly totals. There’s two aspects of the setup process with the X5. The first is to pair it up with your phone via Bluetooth with the Xplora companion app and it is one that works with Android and iOS devices. This testing was done using an Android phone. Stay curious – The X5 Play encourages children to explore their environment and record their adventures with a 2MP camera that stores up to a thousand pictures on the device. Xplora was originally founded by father-of-four Sten Kirkbak when he couldn't find his four-year-old in a shopping mall, so keeping kids connected is a huge part of this smartwatch's design. This watch is a useful 'first phone' for kids Credit: Xplora The Xplora X5 Play Smartwatch: your child's first phone Your little ones can send messages via Bluetooth to other Kurio watches or via the Kurio Android app (not available on iOS) plus a front-facing camera lets them take selfies and videos, and add fun filters before sharing. X3S, XGO, XGO2, X4, X5 Play and X6Play: the SIM-card should have both unlimited voice minutes and around 150 MB of mobile data per month. Both contracts and pay as you go SIM-cards will work. Data volume might depend on personal usage.¹

Smartwatches for kids is one of the fastest growing segments in the wearables space today,” said Pankaj Kedia, Sr. Director & Global Head, Smart Wearables segment, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We are delighted to be collaborating with Xplora to fuel this growth with innovative products that kids love and parents desire. Our Snapdragon Wear platform, the heart of Xplora’s X5 Play smartwatch, is making it possible to deliver rich, interactive experiences while staying connected with 4G LTE, staying safer with GPS, and delivering extended battery life.”Soha nem voltak még kevésbé aktívak a gyerekek, mint manapság, és ezen szeretnénk változtatni. APN is short for Access Point Name. It is the network configuration that the watch needs to have to connect to the Internet through your provider’s network. In terms of the device itself, the watch is really well-built. When I first unboxed it and showed my wife, her response was that this seems like it could be a watch for a grown-up. The fit and finish of the plastic materials used for the casing are all very well done. It comes with a pre-installed screen protector covering the Gorilla Glass display with a small cutout for the front-facing camera. The Xplora X5 Play is a good-looking kid's smartwatch with some great ideas for encouraging activity. The safety features available for the parents are well implemented and allow you to monitor your child as needed. The microphone issues can pose problems when your child is making calls in noisy environments, and the preset reward system can be disappointing.

The Xplora X5 is the Norwegian-based wearable maker’s latest kids smartwatch that’s that offers features that should give it appeal to parents and guardians as well. kameralla X5 Play:n voi ottaa upeita kuvia, jotta lapsesi voi jakaa kuvia kanssasi koko päivän. Ja mikä parasta, Xplora noudattaa GDPR-sääntöjä, joten sinun ei tarvitse huolehtia kuvien joutumisesta internetiin. X5 Play:n voit tallentaa jopa 1000 kuvaa, ja kuvia voidaan käyttää taustakuvana, jotta lapsi voi tehdä kellopuhelimestaan juuri oman näköisensä. In terms of the companion app for the parent, it is a bit underwhelming. Location reporting can be incorrect. The inability to create custom rewards for the Xcoin program is disappointing, and not seeing the live step-count on for the watch is frustrating. While these aren't deal-breakers, the software feels like an afterthought for a device that is so well thought out from a hardware perspective.Madison liked the fact that there is 4GB of onboard storage on XPlay 5. This gave her the ability to take and store pictures and videos. To support children starting out in the online world, EE has also created PhoneSmart, a free online programme which helps young people learn how to how to stay safe and be kind online. It’s available to everyone, not just EE customers, via EEPhoneSmart.co.uk .
