About this deal

In a lot of ways, the Hesh 3 headset is similar to the Crusher, only a little smaller, and with a slightly different control placement. The pivoting armatures adjust for a perfect fit, while lightweight design and memory foam ear cushions allow for comfortable all day listening. The Hesh 3 carries a V-shaped sound signature with a slightly more forward midbass, leaning towards treble and technical issues due to its treble performance, which I’ll go into below.

It’s up for anything and comfortably sits around your neck with pivoting armatures when you’re not listening. In the box, you’ll get the headphones themselves, along with a microUSB charging cable and an aux cable. However, the Mpow are slightly more comfortable, and their Bluetooth latency might be low enough for people not to notice a delay. If you rather not take a risk on the build quality, I would recommend going for the Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless instead.

There’s a ton of bass that makes rap, electronic, and pop music sound great but it won’t satisfy audiophiles looking for a more balanced approach. Of course, the result is that the headphones tend to block out a lot of outside noise, which is good news for those that like a quieter listening experience. Plus, whenever you get low, the Rapid Charge feature gives you 3 hours of listening time on just a 10-minute charge. As you might expect, more expensive wireless headphones like the Bose QuietComfort 35 II and Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2 do a better job at conveying a sense of space and the timbre of instruments like the violin and cymbals, and to that end the Hesh 3 sounds wooden and two dimensional when compared to its more high-end competitors. The display of third-party trademarks and trade names on this site does not necessarily indicate any affiliation or the endorsement of PCMag. They mention that the noise isolation isn't great, the wireless connection lasts quite a distance, and the charging is fine.

Fortunately, connected the old-fashioned way, but just switching on your Bluetooth device and finding the headset manually isn’t difficult. It would have been nice to see USB-C charging as most phones today use that port instead - but the decision to use microUSB isn't all that bad. Also, the closed-back design will make them sound less open and spacious, compared to an open-back headphone. We would have liked to see a little more metal, and you will want to be a little careful when throwing the headphones in a bag. There's a strong bass presence here, but it's never over the top, and the high-mids and highs arguably command more of the spotlight.
