The base unit for the T10 is one of the biggest we’ve seen for a robot vacuum, and you’ll want to make sure that there’s enough space for it wherever it’s being set up. Inside the base station, you’ll find two large 1.1-gallon tanks – one for clean water and one for dirty water that is siphoned in while the mopping pads are being cleaned. The tanks are durable and easy to take out, and can be cleaned or refilled without any complications. Say goodbye to filling tiny trays with water – this massive tank capacity means that you can go through several cleaning cycles before the robot reminds you to add in more water or clean the dirty water tank. And some of the available names are just…strange. You can’t label the room where you eat your meals “dining room,” but you can call it “restaurant.” There is a “kitchen” label, fortunately. You can name your master bedroom as such, but you can have only one other bedroom, and it will be labeled “secondary bedroom” or “children room.” You can have a “study,” but not a home office; and you can have a “living room” but not a home theater, great room, or rumpus room. You can have only one bathroom. The Narwal T10 is a great mop and a very good vacuum; unfortunately, it’s nearly undone by an app that’s a bit of a mess. You can’t use the robot without the app, so don’t buy this robot vac/mop hybrid unless you’re willing to tolerate a steep learning curve—and a few bugs. I’ve concluded that the labor-saving benefits here are worth the pain, but my job has me learning and mastering new things almost every day. If you’re more of the “I just want it to work” mindset, steer clear of this product. I can see how the Narwal T10 Robot would be a lifesaver for larger homes with either kids and/or pets. If you find yourself constantly having to clean the floors or vacuum up your pets’ fur balls, the Narwal robot will make your life infinitely easier. iRobot’s Roomba devices are the original robot vacuums, but these days, there are dozens of different brands and models of robot vacuums. Some can be very affordable, but do-it-all bots that sweep and mop can be expensive, so when something goes wrong, it can be frustrating. A common problem is when your robot vacuum won’t charge. Fortunately, this is often an easy fix.
Freo vs. Other Robot
Thought it’s still a bit buggy, the Narwal robot mop and vacuum show promise as a less laborious way to clean uncarpteted floors. For example, because you can start vacuuming or mopping with a few taps on the screen, it means other people in the household can operate the machine without your involvement. You can also change some settings and do other minor things from the control center as well. The touchscreen felt fluid to swipe around on and was easy to read. Across my kitchen's hardwood floor, the Freo vacuum was able to clean chip pieces in a single pass of the room after I had purposefully sprinkled the bits on the ground. If you want to run the vacuum less often, you can also have it do two passes for each space to make sure it gets all the dust and dirt.
This cryptic error message popped up repeatedly as I was trying to partition rooms on the app’s map of my home. When the cleaning mission is complete, Freo will generate a short video that reports the cleaning details of your rooms, including the duration, area, and number of cleaning times. We have engineered our special detergent sheets to produce less foam to prevent malfunctions. Unlike most cleansers, our detergent sheets are made of no corrosive ingredients and help keep the pipes clean and clear. We do not recommend using other cleaners as they may produce foam or residue that corrodes the piping system and parts, causing the robot to malfunction.
Does Narwal Make Sense For Your Home?
Narwal's particular route planning algorithm allows Freo to "vacuum more times" "mop more times" on the overlapping area in every cleaning mode. The brush module detaches from the bottom of the vacuum so you can attach the mop pads to its motorized spindles. Even after a cleaning in the base station, the pads were still quite dirty, so you’ll want to make sure that the pads are properly cleaned every few cycles.

You can of course program the robot to clean on a schedule—with separate programs for vacuuming and mopping. But you’ll need to gain an understanding of Narwal’s idiosyncratic menu language before you can do that. What makes the T10 so unique is that after about five minutes or so of mopping, it will return to the base station to clean itself. Yes, you heard that right – it cleans the pads before resuming its mopping duties. Again, water is sprayed onto the pads which rotate inside the base station and rub against small grooves to dislodge dirt.
If your floor has multiple levels you may need to move the entire base station and device to the floor you wish to clean When you need to mop, simply swap out the vacuum module for the two triangular pads, press the start button on the base station, and the T10 takes care of the rest. The base station first sprays clean water onto the pads, after which the robot will head to the room that’s furthest from the base station and start mopping. The logic behind this is so that the dirty pads aren’t dragged over already-cleaned surfaces. One benefit of the T10 is its massive 5800 mAh battery, which means that it can run for longer cleaning cycles than other robot vacuums. Narwal pegs the battery life at around three hours per charge, though it doesn't specify whether this is in vacuuming or mopping mode. Before it can start cleaning, the Narwal must map your space so it can plot an efficient course through the environment. You’ll need to attach its sweeping module to accomplish this. The manufacturer also recommended that you lay down some of the supplied magnetic strips around any space or furniture that you want the robot to steer clear of. As to be expected with a prototype, the Narwal’s performance wasn’t without hiccups. The robot would occasionally fail to connect to the app, and other times it would claim to be trapped by an obstacle even though it was in open space. The developers gave me a heads-up about both of these issues and were already working on fixes at press time. Bottom line Our test apartment consists of tiled floor with one large medium pile rug in the living room under the couch. We started off with the vacuum module attached, so that we could clean up the area of dirt and debris before mopping.
