The rivers Noe and the Wye are tributaries. [31] The River Manifold [32] and River Dove [33] in the south-west, whose sources are on Axe Edge Moor, flow into the Trent. The River Dane [34] flows into the River Weaver in Cheshire. The Peak District forms the southern extremity of the Pennines. [5] Much of it is upland above 1,000 feet (300m), its highest point being Kinder Scout at 2,087ft (636m). [6] Despite its name, the landscape has fewer sharp peaks than rounded hills, plateaus, valleys, limestone gorges and gritstone escarpments (the "edges"). Lose Hill is a year-round destination, but for the best visibility and to enjoy the landscape in all its glory, late summer to early autumn is ideal.

It’s become a hotspot for photographers, and it’s easy to see why. The towering limestone cliffs and the winding road create a scene that’s just begging to be captured on camera. Lead mining peaked in the 17th and 18th centuries; high concentrations were found in the area from this period, along with peat on Kinder Scout, suggesting that lead smelting occurred. The walk starts from the National Trust car park near the village of Castleton, with the postcode S33 8WA serving as a handy reference for navigation. Lose Hill is one of those walks that offers a lot without requiring a full day’s commitment. Located at one end of the famous Great Ridge, this walk provides panoramic views of the surrounding Hope Valley and is a perfect introduction to what the Peak District has to offer. The Walk Other places of interest nearby include the delightful Derbyshire village of Bradwell, which contains clusters of cottages and character houses that spread up the sides of a deep gorge before opening out onto lush meadows in the Hope Valley.
