About this deal

It is hard to describe the difference in cables (ignoring the physical size) in words to determine what to look for and what to avoid. Charger Cables 6AWG, 60 Inches, Pair, Ring/Ferrule AltE 6AWG 60" Charger Cables ALTCC-6AWG-60RB Charger Cables 6AWG, 60 Inches, Pair, Ring/Ferrule Our total wattage worked out at under 200W, however we chose to install a 500VA inverter as the price difference between the 250VA and the 500VA inverter is negligible. This future proofs our system and means that if we want to use slightly higher wattage appliances in the future, this will be possible.

Inverter cigarette lighter adapters are plug and play. Once plugged in your vehicle it should work. However you won’t be able to use the maximum power. From a 500 watt inverter, the lighter might pull only 250 watts. But if portability is your main prioerity,, then this should be an issue. If you go too small, it is frustrating. If you go too big, you waste power as there is an overhead in use, which is bigger, the bigger the inverter is. So for example, a 3000W inverter to power a Laptop will use a lot more power than a 500W inverter to power the same Laptop. For example, if you plan to use your campervan for weekends away and 1-2 week holidays, then an AGM battery bank could last around 8-10 years. However, if you will use your campervan for full-time van life, then an AGM battery bank may only last around 3 years. If you plan to live in your van full-time and you will keep it for a number of years, then it makes sense to invest in a lithium battery bank so that you won’t need to replace your batteries. Thirdly, the harder grade of PVC is more reistant to abrasion and cutting than standard PVC, offering more protection and greater reliability.

Divide the inverter watt capacity by the voltage to find its amps, then use the table above to find the equivalent wire size.Modified sine wave inverters are much cheaper than pure sine wave inverter, but they can also make a buzzing noise when certain appliances are plugged in and are typically less efficient. We installed the Victron 500VA pure sine wave Phoenix inverter. This problem is overcome by manufacturing the core from many small diameter strands of copper wire to make up the desired cross-sectional area, rather than using a single wire. This type of cable is (unsurprisingly) known as 'stranded' cable and provides much more flexibility, which means improved resistance to work hardening making it better suited to use in vehicles. The difference in cross sections is shown in the diagram below: Secondly, it has a greater working temperature range with a maximum of around 105ºC compared with around 70ºC for standard PVC. This makes it more suited to use in areas close to the engine. This drop might also trigger the low voltage protection integrated in these systems. When an inverter senses the voltage has fallen below acceptable levels, it will stop running any load connected to it. If the cables are too long and not the right size, it might not even accept a load. If you notice that the inverter is consuming more power than what the load should, or that it is not performing as expected, this might be attributed to the inverter and battery being too far apart from each other.
