About this deal

Four of the next five albums - beginning with this very release - all share one congruity and that is eclecticism. Less of his jammy basswork circa 1970 and more just following Iommi, but it sounds superb all the same. Snowblind) and the rest from London (War Pigs, Children of the Grave, Wicked World -> Guitar Solo -> Into The Void [intro riff – short arrangement] -> Sometimes I’m Happy [jam with vocals] Supernaut (excerpt) -> Drum Solo -> Wicked World [reprise], Paranoid). Coming in between their doom metal masterpiece Master Of Reality and the weird but strong step forward Sabbath Bloody Sabbath makes it the overlooked middle child by many a person my age. If you read the title to Under the Sun it has an added subtitle of Everyday Comes and Goes, which has a purpose.

Listened to the original album a few times, plus made it through all the alternates and live tracks.

Each band member is given their own full page photo, with a full size 'band on-stage' image at the centerfold position. The innovators of heavy metal revisit Vol 4 on a new collection that includes a newly remastered version of the original album along with a trove of 20 unreleased studio and live recordings. This is a bit of a transitional album that hinted at the weirdness of the next two while still holding the traditional doom candle that came before it.

Changes is a complete change in direction and wowed me when I first listened to the album back in the 70s and haven't stopped playing this album since. Snowblind" isn't overrated at all either, Iommi hadn't played heavy riffs accented by the chord strumming heard there very much up to this point, and eventually bands did catch on, like The Gates of Slumber with "Suffer No Guilt" (random example that came to mind, there's better ones). Not sure if you agree (I’d say we go 50/50 on these things), but I would have loved to hear any of the studio banter that was going on during the troublesome Cornicopia sessions with Bill Ward.as highly influential on his musical formation and stated he "learned to play guitar from that album". I recently found out that a quad mix of Sabotage was prepared but apparently wasn’t ever released; I didn’t know about a (test) quad mix of SBS, nor that there was a boot. Music that emphasized upbeat tempos, slick percussive-heavy songs that energized audiences; streamlined but full of energy and fun. is officially credited to Black Sabbath and Patrick Meehan, the bulk of the actual production was performed by guitarist Tony Iommi.

Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time" -listauksessaan vuonna 1989 ja Q-magazine sijoitti albumin sijalle 60.Osbourne kritisoi vuonna 1972 yhtyeen saamaa mainetta pelkkänä huumeiden- ja lääkkeiden väärinkäyttäjien suosimana, yksipuolisena yhtyeenä: "Kriitikot sanovat meitä "downer rock" (suom. I then consulted a friend of mine who is far more knowledgeable about bootlegs than I, and this is what is going on with the Live at 73 discs here. Has spent quality time with Robert Plant, Keith Richards, Ritchie Blackmore, Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore – and also spent time in a maximum security prison alongside Love/Hate. The set also features 11 additional studio recordings (also newly mixed by Wilson from the analog multi-tracks) that spotlight alternative takes, false starts and snippets of studio dialogue.

As I said before, I have not received a copy of the CD version as I type this, so I can’t comment on that physical package. This version replaces “Tomorrow’s Dream”, “Sweet Leaf” and “Snowblind” with the performances recorded at the London 3/16/1973 show. The original line-up lasted until 1979, after which Osbourne was fired and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. When I first was sent the press release for this, I thought perhaps that this album was just Live at Last repackaged again.

Not only are the riffs themselves catchy all around, but the variety is executed wonderfully enough to overlook that tiny complaint. But here I personally didn’t care for them – if I want to listen to the studio tracks of Vol 4, gimme the original. I love the lyrics and use of piano in Changes, but what makes it great is the eerie background feel it gives off (though I'm not quite sure what instrument is being played). So I then inquired with the label as to the source of the live tapes, but never heard back from them. When you’re the band that recorded “Iron Man,” “War Pigs,” and “Paranoid,” and you put them all on the same album, congratulations, that’s the peak of your powers.
