About this deal

PLANT!T Perlite is easy and safe to handle and odourless whilst also being lightweight and simple to use. PLANT!T Perlite can be used for soil conditioning - increasing aeration and drainage in heavy hard to manage soils; repairing/laying down lawns - giving additional aeration and drainage when raked into spiked holes; and planting trees and shrubs - loosening and aerating soil to encourage root development. Due to its high insulating qualities and versatility expanded perlite is widely used in the construction industry for masonry and other build types.

Expanded perlite is a white, ultra-lightweight aggregate ranging from a very fine powder to an aggregate with a particle size up to 5mm in size. It is inorganic, inert, neutral in pH, biologically stable and has no asbestos content. It has excellent thermal insulation properties over an extremely wide temperature range from cryogenics at minus 273°C (absolute zero) up to refractory applications at over 1000°C. It also has a highly adsorbent surface and a very low bulk density, which makes it an ideal carrier or low cost filler for many compound formulations. Nutrient buffering compliments this water buffering action and with high air content this is a very useful product as a growing medium, seed covering and compost amendment. Perlite is widely used in commercial hydroponics, seed starting and plant rooting, as a soil conditioner, and to enhance the water-holding and anti-compaction properties of growing soils. Perlite is a white, ultra-lightweight aggregate ranging from a very fine powder to an aggregate with a particle size up to 5mm in size SwiftAir exfoliated vermiculite and expanded perlite are absorbents and carriers. Each of these unique minerals have their own characteristics.Expanded Perlite is suitable for a range of landscaping applications such as green roof construction, golf green renovation and construction, planters, drainage and reduction.

Perlite granules have a very porous texture, meaning they are full of micro pores that can store extra amounts of oxygen, vital for you plants to grow healthy and strong! The porous nature of perlite means that water is extremely free-draining though it, meaning less chances of a water-logged pot and over watered plants, when you use it as a growing amendment. It is particularly useful for opening up and aerating dense soils or potting mixes, dramatically increasing the overall available oxygen content. Further to promoting a faster uptake of nutrients, an increased oxygen level will also help to ward off any pathogenic diseases from your pot – helping to keep root rot at bay. Drainage: plants like succulents and cacti, which are used to living in dry soil, can benefit from a perlite blend as it will introduce an effective drainage system. Introducing air into the compost, perlite works to help water pass through the soil, preventing roots from becoming oversaturated Ideally have a breathing mask when using the product. A lot of fine dust particles will be released into the air when you start pouring it out of the bag. While not immediately life threatening, it’s always best to avoid breathing any of it in. To avoid this spray or wet the perlite slightly before you begin tipping it out of the bag. Perlite has been used by gardeners the world over for many years and when you want to improve drainage of your chosen media then use PLANT!T perlite. In the food industry, Perlite (Standard Grade) 2-5mm is used for straining fruit juices, vegetable edible oils, sugar syrup, corn sherbet (producing glucose I dextrose), beer, wine and liquors. It is also used for filtration of dyes, white water filtration in the paper industry, antibiotics, pectin, citric acid, soda ash solutions, sodium silicate (water glass), sulfuric acid, uranium sherbet, floccine in hydroxide and flocculation processes, as well as phosphoric acid leaching. Additionally, it is suitable for drinking water filtration, swimming pool water filtration, waste water cleaning and filtration processes, and machine oil filtration (regeneration of used machine oils). As a filler i n the p h a r maceut i ca l and chemical i ndust ry; Perlite (Standard Grade) 2-5mm is suitable for many applications, including veterinary and human healthcare drugs, pesticides, cleaning powders, fertilizers, dynamite production and high-performance paint with large surface area coverage. It is also used in the cosmetics industry, such as soaps. That’s not all, though. Containing high amounts of silica, perlite also works to stimulate root growth and soil aeration. Perlite applications Top Selling Product-Horticultural Perlite Standardgraded for horticultural use, 2.0-5.0mm is used to improve aeration, water management and insulation properties for growing media. Perlite standard is lightweight, density approximately 100kg/m 3. It is supplied in 100 litre bags by Sinclair Professional. Vermiculite Fine (1.0-3.0mm)is used to improve aeration, water management, nutrient retention and exchange and has insulation properties in growing media.

Perlite insulation is used in high temperature applications in the steel and foundry industries such as ladle topping, hot topping and risering. At FertileFibre, you can buy perlite in 35-litre, 50-litre and 100-litre bags, depending on the size of your planting project. You’ll also find perlite for sale in fine and medium grade options, helping you find the perfect balance between water retention and absorption within your soil.Although Perlite is a fantastic method to increase aeration, because of its porous nature, it does (to a degree) hold on to a certain amount of water simply from the huge surface area that it possesses. If used as a standalone media however, irrigation frequencies need to be dramatically increased, as its water holding capacity is by no means anywhere close to a media like soil or coco. HOW TO USE PERLITE SwiftAir coated expanded perlite is a hydrophobic insulating aggregate. This water repellent, non-flammable, loose-pour insulant improves the thermal performance on masonry walls and floors. This is what makes it an excellent addition to compost or soil, as it boasts exceptional water absorption in its expanded form. In turn, perlite helps to regulate soil moisture for growing seeds, cuttings and established plants either directly in the ground or in pots. Perlite can also be used as part of a 50/50 mix with vermiculite – a very successful mix of media particularly for when rooting cuttings.

Vermiculite Fineisgraded for horticultural use.It is lightweight, density approximately 100kg /m3, has a neutral pH (6.0-7.0), excellent insulation, retains water, and has a high porosity and high nutrient buffer capacity. Vermiculite Fine is widely used for covering fine seed during propagation and is also valuable in easing the water management of peat composts. As a heat insulation material in industry; Reactors up to 1000° can benefit from Perlite (Standard Grade) insulation. It is an ideal material for cold storages, LPG, LNG, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, ammonia, liquid propane, ethane, methane, liquid noble gases, propellants and refrigerants. Additionally, it makes an effective additive for ceramics and glass production. Perlite is the small white, pumice-like grains that you will find in quite a few potting mixes currently available on the market. Primarily it is used to help improve the drainage and aeration of a hydroponics substrate, meaning that you are much less likely to run into problems associated with over-watering than when you use a substrate without perlite added into it. It is particularly useful to add into a media when you are growing in systems such as Autopots, that are typically constantly saturated with water, to ensure they do not become waterlogged. If you’re looking for an effective addition to your soil or compost that will help to improve drainage and water retention, our range of perlite options could have just the solution for you. What is perlite? Perlite can be supplied in a number of grades, depending on the particular requirements of the application. Sowing: mixed into seed compost, perlite helps to retain moisture and aerate the soil - allowing delicate seedling roots to flourish without becoming too damp It really couldn’t be easier! Simply open the bag and pour it out. No pre-treating or buffering for pH is needed with perlite of any sort. It makes a fantastic addition to another potting media such as soil or coco, the ratio of which you should be adding depends very much on the media you are adding it to and the system you are going to be using it in. If you think you may benefit from using perlite, but are unsure of exactly how much you should be using, please feel free to give us a ring and one of our experienced staff members will be happy to help. TIPS ON USE Non-combustible ultra-lightweight mineral aggregate with excellent insulation & adsorption properties.
