About this deal

On arrival at the North Pole, you’ll catch a sighting of Santa’s sleigh, a bag of toys and a giant Christmas tree and, of course, the man himself, Santa who will present each passenger with their very own “First Gift of Christmas”, a silver bell from his sleigh. Your own copy of The Polar Express to read along on board ( buy a copy here). If you’re on the nice list, Father Christmas* might even sign it for you when he passes through the carriage!

Although run by different railway lines across the country, all the experiences are very similar in format and of course are designed to bring The Polar Express story to life! Each train ride offers a unique experience, but they will follow a similar format. See below for each Polar Express location, but in general, the experience will closely follow the Polar Express story. There will be hot chocolate and singing and a gift of a silver bell as a memento of your special day. You know your children and your family best and know when they will get the most from the occasion. In our experience children aged four and over have a greater chance of remembering the occasion and are more engaged in Christmas general and all its wonder! That being said little ones will no doubt love the sensory experience and under 2s can sit on an adult’s lap for a nominal charge. You don’t have to wear pyjamas, but if you really want to get into the spirit of the Polar Express experience, why not wear pyjamas like the little boy in the film? Wearing pyjamas is encouraged by the Polar Express.

What to expect from a Polar Express Train ride

There are some local variations, particularly with the actual train used and of course the route taken (for example the Seaton Polar Expresstakes place on a classic tramcar rather than a train). Duration: The Scottish Polar Express Train ride lasts about 30 minutes each way but allow 2 hours for the whole experience. The book was already a Christmas classic, particularly in the US. However the 2004 animated movie, starring Tom Hanks as The Polar Express train conductor, introduced the tale to a plethora of new global fans and cemented its place in the Christmas story hall of fame!

There will be singing and dancing chefs and you will be encouraged to recount your own Christmas memories. There will be hot chocolate and a cookie served during the train ride and a gift of a silver sleigh bell. Selected items are only available for delivery via the Royal Mail 48® service and other items are available for delivery using this service for a charge. Therefore all follow a similar format which is closely aligned to the original story and licenced to use all branding and characters from the book and movie. As the show continues everything goes deadly silent and you hear a bellow from the coach as Santa Claus enters. During this time, we were chatting with the Chefs, who were very engaging as they entertained the children until Santa Claus come past to deliver the first present of Christmas, the Jingle Bell. The Polar Express – Leo with his Sleigh bell The extremely popular and iconic Christmas film ‘ The Polar Express’ was released in 2004 and became available to buy on DVD in November 2005. My eldest son, Leo was born December 2005 and it has been his all-time favourite Christmas film since he was three years old. Firstly, everyone wears Christmas pyjamas on The Polar Express (Including adults) but wear sensible warm shoes.
