About this deal

This historic former home of Austen was the birthplace of her six beloved novels and has now been transformed into a museum for people to learn about her life and celebrate her works. The complete novels of Jane Austen come to life in this comprehensive collection of classic BBC adaptations. These much-loved romances spring vividly to life on the screen, full of wit and charm, with an equal amount of humor and drama, in adaptations that have been praised again and again for their faithfulness to the original novels.

Timeless Classics : a jewel of Victorian publishing designed to occupy a permanent place on our bookshelves This rose was first unveiled to the public at the 2013 edition of RHS Chelsea Flower Show to mark 200 years since the publication of the famed book, which has gone on to sell millions of copies. Named after arguably Austen’s best-known novel, a particularly special rose is needed to be the namesake of ‘Pride & Prejudice’.Few novelists have conveyed the subtleties and nuances of their own social milieu with the wit and insight of Jane Austen. Through her vivacious and spirited heroines and their circle, she painted vivid portraits of English middle-class life as the eighteenth century came to a close.

This rose was another to be launched at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and was one of Harkness Roses’ new varieties presented in 2019.

The ‘Jane Austen’ rose was first launched in 2017 to mark the 200 th anniversary of the novelist’s death. This boasts an intense apricot shade that is certain to live long in the memory of anyone who sees it.

Another popular rose which draws its name from one of Austen’s famous novels, ‘Sense and Sensibility’ was only launched at this year’s edition of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where it blew away the crowds! Chawton Cottage is the affectionate name given to the Jane Austen’s House Museum, which is based in the Hampshire village of Chawton, near Alton. Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, Louisa May Alcott… Timeless Classics offers you a superb selection of novels that revolutionised the female universe. One voice irritated me beyond patience, the one for Isabella Thorpe in Northanger Abbey, which in itself needs to be higher on the list of Austen's humour and commentary on "modern" novels. Isabella, voiced by a Lily Cole (unsure if it's the model & author) who is raspy voiced and sounded like she was wearing the largest most ill fitting braces on her teeth, her voice was grating like the sound of a fork scraped across an aluminium plate. It doesn't help that Isabella is also a detestable character, but the voice made it worse! Henry Tilney however was brilliantly voiced and indeed I think he's one of the funniest leading men of Austen's work. Sense and Sensibility - The first of 6 dramatizations of Jane Austen's books. The cast kept the book moving and enjoyable. Elinor and Marianne Dashwood's adventurers into love and society are the focus of this novel. Of course, there must be a male villain, John Willoughby, and a hero (of sorts) named Col. Brandon. Austen introduces us to the Dashwood sisters who upon the death of their father are left with little money or status and without their family home. Marianne Dashwood wears her heart on her sleeve and when she falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby she ignores her sister Elinor's warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor, always sensitive to social convention, is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her

Because their heroines are women who embody freedom and the importance of being oneself. Women who are proud of being women and who insist on their rights and their role in society. Jane Austen was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature, her realism and biting social commentary cementing her historical importance among scholars and critics. A beautiful boxed set of seven Hardcover Classics by Jane Austen, including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and Love and Freindship A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.Northanger Abbey - Probably my least favorite of the 6. Still interesting and the cast is very engaging. Northanger Abbey: Austen could have easily been a great Gothic author if she had wanted to be, even if this was a parody of gothic literature at the time, sections of this were brilliantly written. Once again, Emma Thompson is clearly the best narrator in this collection. This pair are joined by two further roses, entitled ‘Jane Austen’ and ‘Chawton Cottage’, to create our remarkable Jane Austen Collection. These roses will not only delight gardens wherever they are planted, but the sale of them will also make an impact on a very worthy cause.
