About this deal

Perhaps the most significant difference in design philosophy between the two brand's offerings is only visible after you've flipped them over. While both may have started with single roller heads, Shark has pushed continuously forward, developing twin roller heads for most of the vacuums on their lineup. The promotional material would tell you that this design is ideal for multi-surface households, with an unpowered soft roller collecting lightweight debris like dust on hard floors and the main roller providing the necessary surface agitation to lift away debris embedded in carpets. Shark has also long-touted the self-cleaning capability of these primary brushrolls, which use plastic fins to capture any long strands of hair before they can foul up the mechanisms. If you'd like to see a rundown of all the cordless models offered by Shark and Dyson, see the table linked here. Dyson vs Shark: Corded Vacuums The vacuum itself is amazing for hard floors, and performs above average on rugs, I did have to do multiple passes on the rug to get all the fine hair and debris out, and the duoclean head is jinky and awkward on the carpet edges where it meets the floor. The Powered Lift-Away design takes this from an upright into a portable vacuum that can be held in one hand while still using the main floorhead in the other, giving excellent reach under low furniture. And for stairs or overhead cleaning, the attachments can be used in this mode to make cleaning easy.

The Shark Stratos Cordless with Clean Sense IQ IZ862H helpfully has a MULTIflex wand which bends to increase the reach under furniture (Image credit: Future) The washable pre-motor filter needs rinsing monthly, whereas the post-motor HEPA only needs rinsing once a year. Both filters will need replacing after 2.5-3 years of use. All the filters are easy to access for cleaning and replacement. Dyson and Shark are two titans of the modern household vacuum industry, each enjoying a level of brand recognition that isn't common within the industry.

A cordless vacuum that's lightweight in use, the Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum is a great cleaner at a reasonable price.

The Shark Stratos Cordless with Clean Sense IQ IZ862H can be neatly folded for storage, and stays upright (Image credit: Future) Shark Stratos Cordless with Clean Sense IQ IZ862H performance Since 2018, Dyson has been focussing on cordless vacuums, and while the brand does offer a handful of corded upright vacuums and in the US and Australia, canister-style floor cleaners (often referred to as cylinder vacuums or barrel vacuums), its biggest range of floor cleaners are wire-free.

So just how much will you have to spend on a powerful vacuum cleaner? Dyson’s range is more expensive than Shark’s, but they are lighter, more compact and as we’ve mentioned loaded with smarts that ensure a thorough clean, which in our eyes makes them worth the extra investment. At the top of the handle is a LED display screen that displays the selected power mode and the remaining battery life. Built into this are buttons for turning the vacuum on and off and switching between Eco, Clean Sense IQ, and Boost mode. The vacuum doesn't have a charging station or base, making it easy to store it away in a closet or other space between uses. Unlike Dyson, Shark has persisted in maintaining a pretty large selection of corded vacuums in several different configurations. If you're the kind of buyer who isn't fully onboard with the cordless revolution, you should probably look at what they offer first. Shark's best known for their selection of upright vacuums, which include the Navigator and Rotator ranges; we've tested the Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away, the Shark Rotator Lift-Away ADV, the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe, and the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Speed. Most use the brand's 'Lift-Away' design, which places the main motor unit and dustbin within a removable canister module that can be lifted free of its floorhead and wand and carried around in one hand, enabling you to clean hard-to-reach areas with greater ease than the more traditionally-configured Dyson. When testing the vacuum, we never came close to running down the battery when vacuuming our 1,600sq ft / 150sq m home, and we’d often end a vacuuming session with about 40% of battery left.

The dust cup is easy to remove and with the press of one button the dirt empties out of the bottom into the trash. However, we did find that on more than one occasion we had to manually pull some of the dirt out due to tangled hair which stopped it from falling out on its own, which is somewhat annoying. The filters have to be washed monthly to keep them from getting clogged but it’s an easy job and they last 2.3-3 years before they need to be replaced. Disassembling the vacuum to use it in the powered lift-away mode is really simple, though we’d have preferred if the small tools were stored on board the vacuum for easy access. Nevertheless, the ability to use it in so many different configurations is very convenient. The floorhead of the Shark Stratos Cordless with Clean Sense IQ IZ862H houses the Odor Neutralizer Technology, Clean Sense IQ indicator and LED headlights (Image credit: Future)The vacuum doesn’t have a charging station or base, making it easy to store in a closet or other space between uses. Image credit: TechRadar) Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner with PowerFins Powered Lift-Away and TruePet ICZ300UKT price and availability The Anti Hair Wrap technology was effective at preventing hairs from becoming tangled in the brush rolls, even after we spread extra hair over the floor to give it a challenge. We also appreciated the headlights on the front of the floorhead, they illuminate dark corners and the areas beneath furniture, making it easier to see what you’re vacuuming. As we previously said, it comes with a range of useful attachments which differ slightly between the US and UK models. The UK model comes with a crevice tool, dusting brush, wide upholstery tool, and motorized pet tool. The US model comes with a crevice tool, pet multi-tool, and an anti-allergen dusting brush. This vacuum's dust collection is decent, and it’s reasonably priced with a lengthy warranty so it’ll suit lots of people. Plus, the removable battery means you don’t need to find a spot next to a power outlet to store it. It won’t win any prizes for sleek looks and streamlined design, though, and emptying the dustbin can be messy. How does the Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum compare to competitors?
