About this deal

The second segment is about “The Piddingtons”— a husband and wife mentalism act from Australia that was huge on BBC Radio in the 1950s. The story is told from the perspective of their grandson and his search for how they did their act. Created and used originally in a prisoner of war camp in WW2. The mind reading act of Ron & Nancy Spencer approved of my theory. I wonder if it is correct ? Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the villa is its date. Originally constructed as a stone-built villa in the late 1st and early 2nd century AD, there was a disastrous fire in the late 2nd century, which also affected a detached building (labelled no.16) outside the villa courtyard to the northeast. This led to a complete reconstruction of the villa’s south wing and of Building 16. I won’t attempt to prove the genuineness of the Piddingtons’ telepathy; I will just say it is genuine. Having produced five programmes, knowing every detail and every precaution taken, I can say quite truthfully that there never had been a single instance of fake thought transference by Sydney Piddington and his wife.

The Piddington Society is an association of lawyers who are committed to collegiality and access to justice.Piddington is an excavation that perhaps approaches most completely the ideal of what many people think an independent excavation should be. Piddington is a late Iron Age settlement and Romano-British villa, lying in the middle of rolling English countryside, half a mile from the small village of Piddington, some six miles or so south of Northampton. I found the Columbo episode. If you want to get the full effect, watch the first act of the video — the first twenty minutes. Then you can skip to the 1:15:00 mark to see Columbo recreate the effect. At 1:22:00 Columbo shows how it is done, including a couple of interesting subtleties. If a Mr. J.H. Davidson, assistant head of variety (music) at the BBC, had had his way in 1948, the British public would never have experienced a two-year media frenzy—as it wasn’t called in those days—over the mind-reading abilities of a personable young couple whose deeds baffled everyone who tried to explain them.

The methods behind the Piddingtons' act were a closely guarded secret, unknown even to the producers at the BBC. Following Sydney's death in 1991, Lesley is said to have told her grandson, "Even if I wanted to tell you how it was done, I don't think I would be able". At the far northern end, there is a substantial piece of wall, which looks like the evidence for an external staircase. All this points to a high-status building, as does the fact that, in the few places where the wall survives, it appears to have had a damp course made of crushed secondhand opus signinum (concrete), which must have come from an earlier building. forced, pre-determined presence: theuse at critical stages, for instance, ofcomplete’, ‘sympathy’, ‘co-operation’and ‘now’. There is reason to believe that they served as pointers. It was a fiendishlydemanding mental exercise perhaps, butdemonstrably not thought transference.Heard on disc today, the show is remarkablefor its periods without any dialogue at all:there are interludes of 15, even 20, secondswhen Syd is purportedly ‘sending’ a selectedpassage of text to Lesley. Speaking recently onABC radio, the present-day mentalist PhilipEscoffey suggested that ‘a lot of the codingwas in the silence’. The Piddingtons enjoyedsuch a refined degree of understanding, hesaid, that they ‘could distinguish betweenquarter-second intervals.’ Piddingtons Funeral Directors is located in 10640 Uralla Rd, Armidale, NSW 2350 for its Funeral Services services.
