They take a long time to grow, too – usually, around 90 days, although this can vary depending on the size and cultivar of your pumpkin as well as your growing conditions. Also known as ghost pumpkins, they are an albino variant of the same plant species; Cucurbita pepo. They have naturally white or ivory skin. The inside color of a white pumpkin is not white. Pumpkins enjoy plenty of nitrogen so they appreciate a feed of general fertiliser a few weeks after planting. They will begin to produce long stems which can be trained in a circle around the plant to prevent them spreading too far. They have deep roots and are normally quite capable of finding their own water within the soil, but in very dry periods some supplementary watering may be required.Valenciano, Silver Moon, Hooligan, and Polar Bear are some other types of white pumpkins that are good to eat. Make a hole about 30cm (1ft) wide and deep, then fill with a mix of soil and home-made compost or well-rotted manure. Add a general purpose fertiliser, such as Vitax Q4, scattering two handfuls per square metre/yard. Fish out the seeds using your hands, a slotted spoon, or a sieve, and then put them onto a dish towel and pat dry. You now have clean seeds ready to be roasted! Technically a variety of winter squash, and white pumpkins have been around for practically forever. In fact, some of the first pumpkin seeds were discovered in 7000 B.C., making the pumpkin one of the world’s oldest (and most whimsical!) vegetables. There are a couple reasons why we recommend that you boil pumpkin seeds before roasting. Boiling before roasting pumpkin seeds helps to cook the insides of your pumpkin seeds so when you do roast them, you will get perfect crunchy pumpkins seeds. Boiling will ensure that the insides are cooked.
