Netflix waited an excruciatingly long time to announce Cobra Kai season 6, but the streaming network renewed the series in January 2023 after the beloved nostalgia-filled comedy last added new episodes in September 2022. With the months going by without a renewal announcement, fans were starting to get nervous. But fortunately, Netflix gave the series the greenlight and they’re calling this the “biggest” and “baddest” season. It’ll also mark the final season. Cobra Kai has released new seasons in time for New Year’s in previous years, so maybe a New Year’s Eve 2024 or New Year’s Day 2025 release could happen for season 6. What the season 5 ending means for season 6
At the end of Season 4, Karate Kid Part III baddie Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) took control of the Cobra Kai dojo and turned it into a massive (and soulless) franchise. With Johnny Lawrence (Billy Zabka) putting karate aside, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) is going to need to bring in the big guns to take down Silver and his brutal no-mercy style of karate. That means turning to another erstwhile frenemy: Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto), Daniel’s rival in The Karate Kid Part II. Also returning? Sean Kanan as Mike Barnes, another Karate Kid Part III antagonist. It remains to be seen how he’ll enter the fray. We’d love to see Cobra Kai season 6 in the first half of 2024, but that’s pretty much off the table now. Until we hear differently, we’re going to err on the side of caution with the release prediction. On Nov. 8, SAG came to a tentative agreement with the AMPTP on a new, three-year contract, meaning the actors’ strike is coming to an end. Cobra Kai season 6 had been put on hold because of the writers’ and actors’ strike, which prevented any work on the new season. The WGA came to an agreement with the studios and ended their strike in September, and Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz confirmed at that time that once the actors’ strike ended, they’d figure out when they could start filming.
