even if he was a last-minute replacement for Tim Curry. Hamill's ability to take the character's comically sinister façade and blend it with a more savagery that are essential in telling the tales of Batman, his rogue's gallery, and the greater Gotham landscape. Creators Bruce Timm and It’s okay. Personally, I would’ve rather seen Trial expanded into a feature-length film (that was originally the plan before the team decided to do Batman: Mask of the Phantasm instead). That said, I would have rioted in the streets had SubZero not been included with the rest of the set. WB did well throwing this and Mask of the Phantasm into the mix. It wouldn’t have been truly complete without them. Bonus Features stories. Their contrast to Batman/Bruce Wayne's own dark history and shadowy crimefighting is not really a contrast at all. There is one episode of the "new" series at the end that sets the stage for "Batman: Brave and the Bold" where stories deliberately and nostalgically copy the art styles and tone of earlier incarnations of Batman, while poking fun at the franchise itself. That was enjoyable. But as I said before, the last 24 are hit and miss, a real dip in quality from what came before. At least "Batman Beyond" felt free and interesting, by mostly being its own thing, and that's something for another box set review...
