About this deal

After being shown the hedges and what would eventually become the third task, Viktor Krum asked Harry Potter if they could walk and talk privately. Tentatively, Viktor asked about the ridiculous article published by Rita Skeeter regarding Hermione. In the article, she had alluded to the theory that Hermione Granger was once the girlfriend of Harry Potter, but then she traded him to date another famous quidditch player, Viktor Krum, breaking Harry Potter’s heart. When Krum asked what was going on between the two of them, Harry and Hermione, it was at this moment that Harry appreciated just how big Viktor was. When he told him that there was absolutely nothing going on, that they were just friends, had always been friends, and she was more like a sister to him, Krum relaxed. During the Fall term, Hermione keeps finding Krum in the library when she goes there to study. She finds this irritating, not because of Krum, but because of the gaggle of giggling girls who seem to follow him around, looking for autographs. As the Yule Ball approached, Viktor Krum finally worked up the courage to ask Hermione Granger out. This was when he revealed that he had been coming to the library and sitting near her for months because he was interested in her and wanted to go out. On the night of the ball, Hermione had spent hours straightening her hair and wearing a lilac color dress, and the two of them helped open the Yule Ball with a dance. Hermione tried to teach him how to pronounce her name in a series of hilarious, bungled attempts throughout the night.

Also, in several Slavic languages such as Russian 'kar' is an onomatopoeia word, which represents the sound crows make (an equivalent to English ' caw'). Krum joins Harry, Ron and Hermione in the Entrance Hall to say goodbye to Hermione. He asks to speak to Hermione alone, and the pair walk away from the crowd and out of sight. When the pair return soon after, Krum tells Harry that he liked Cedric Diggory; the boy was always polite to Krum, even though he was from Durmstrang. Krum scowls as Harry asks whether they have a new headmaster yet, and shrugs indifferently. He is surprised but gratified when, just as he is walking away, Ron asks for his autograph, and signs a fragment of parchment for him.In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Karkaroff cannot use Dark magic despite having once been a Death Eater. However, this may be because he had defected prior to when the game takes place. In the DS version of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, however, his character is able to perform it. In Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, Krum's appearance is much closer to the book's description since the game had been made before the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film. Krum has long, dark brown hair, a curved nose, and a fairly slim build. Since Cedric Diggory also appears in the game, the game probably takes place in the 1993 season, meaning Krum was 17 at the time. And Krum — you won’t believe this, but he didn’t even think of flying! He was probably the best after you, though. Hit it with some sort of spell right in the eye. Only thing is, it went trampling around in agony and squashed half the real eggs — they took marks off for that, he wasn’t supposed to do any damage to them." — Ron Weasley telling Harry Potter about Krum's performance in the First Task [src]

Krum first met Harry Potter when the latter was mysteriously chosen to be a fourth Triwizard Tournament champion. While it is uncertain if Krum believed Harry put his name into the Goblet of Fire, he seemed to view Harry as just one more competitor. Having gone before him in the first task, Krum watched from the sidelines as Harry performed the task. He was greatly impressed by Harry's flying skills. When Krum began seeing Hermione Granger, he began to have some misplaced jealousy for Harry. He did not know what to believe with the rumours swirling around. Krum is the name of one of the most famous Bulgarian rulers, who ruled in the Ninth century. Krum is, however, not a typical name in modern Bulgaria, being of pagan origin, and is in fact not a surname, but a given name [ citation needed]. At the time Bulgarian rulers were known by their first name, as they all rose from the same house/family (Dulu). Viktor: " I vant to know vot there is between you and Hermy-own-ninny." Harry Potter: " Nothing. We're just friends. She's not my girlfriend and she never has been. It's just that Skeeter woman making things up." Viktor: " Hermy-own-ninny talks about you very often." Harry Potter: " Yeah, because we’re friends ." — Viktor asks Harry Potter about his relationship with Hermione [src] Viktor is an international standard Quidditch player. He displays a perfect example of the Wronski Feint which impresses the spectators at the Quiddich World Cup.He's unbelievable. He's really young too. Only just eighteen or something. He's a genius, you wait until tonight, you'll see." — Ron Weasley on Krum's excellent flying [src] Wood alone does not empower a wand. Presumably, its core material magically fuses with the wood it is embedded into, activating the wand's power. It also seems to become somewhat sentient, allowing it to bond to a Wizard who shares similar qualities. Magical creatures provide the core material; Mr. Ollivander's wands only contain Unicorn hair, Phoenix feather, or Dragon heartstring, though other wandmakers use additional substances. Harry's wand contains a Phoenix feather. A Phoenix is a mythical bird that continually dies by bursting into flames and is then reborn from its own ashes, an act symbolizing resurrection and purity. Krum's wand contains Dragon heartstring, and though a Dragon is often associated with evil and destruction, in many cultures it represents qualities such as strength, wisdom, purification, renewal, and power. The Unicorn hair in Cedric's wand represents purity, innocence, loyalty, and mankind's dual nature (evil and goodness). Fleur's wand confirms Ron's suspicions that she is part Veela. The hair forming its core belonged to her Veela grandmother, making Fleur one-quarter Veela. This wand's core is apparently unusual; it seems to surprise Mr. Ollivander when he finds it, and may reflect the Veelas' more temperamental and volatile natures. As seen earlier in this book, the Veelas' real appearance is far different than the images they can project. Though Fleur is certainly beautiful and alluring, we don't know much about her inner character; at the time we discover the core material of her wand, about the only exposure we have to her is her supercilious air when being forced to accept the "little boy" Harry as a competitor in the Triwizard Tournament. The Veela hair may also represent transformation, adaptability, and even deception and seduction. Being that the hair belongs to someone closely related to Fleur, it may also symbolize the power of family, generational legacy, unity, and loyalty. Treachery! It is a plot! You and your Ministry of Magic have lured me here under false pretence, Dumbledore! This is not an equal competition! First you sneak Potter into the Tournament, though he is under-age! Now one of your Ministry friends attempts to put my champion out of action! I smell double-dealing and corruption in this whole affair, and you, Dumbledore, you with your talk of closer international wizarding links, of rebuilding old ties, of forgetting old differences — here's what I think of you !" — Karkaroff spitting at the ground of Albus Dumbledore's feet [src] Bilingualism: Victor was able to speak fluent English alongside his native Bulgarian, although with a strong accent in the former. Shortly after the briefing for the Third Task of the Tournament, Krum takes Harry aside to ask if Hermione is Harry's girlfriend. Harry responds that she is not; Krum says she talks about him all the time, and Harry says, that's because they are friends, no more than that. While they are talking, Mr. Crouch emerges from the Forbidden Forest. Krum is at a loss for what to do, but Harry tells him to keep an eye on Crouch, and goes off to fetch Professor Dumbledore. On Harry's return, Crouch is gone, and Krum is Stunned; when Dumbledore revives him, he says that Crouch must have Stunned him.
