About this deal

This is clearly NOT for the less CONTEMPLATIVE VIEWER, as evidenced by the baffling reviews perceiving it as slow. There was some fine acting from the youngsters Charlie Tahan and especially Natasha Calis as the friend who puts everything on the line to rescue him. would be really shameful to be associated with anybody in this visual sewage, and being related to any of the associated people would probably make me cutting ties and drift away, changing name and all. That incident, introduces us to Katherine (played by Samantha Morton) who is caring for her sick invalid son, Andy (played by Charlie Tahan) alongside her husband (played by Michael Shannon). Her performance is understated and subtle, yet perfectly and entirely successfully at presenting the quiet evil that resides inside her character.

a little better however the young actors (Natasha Calis and Charlie Tahan) outshining all the adults, give excellent emotional wide eyed performances as two kids caught in the complexities of an adult phsycho-mess that is the relationship between Katherine (Morton) and Richard (Michael Shannon) and their response to having a sick child. As the mother, Kathleen’s only desire and drive comes from treating her ill son, and without that, she will lose her identity. John McNaughton sought a PG rating for the film, but failed: "I made a promise that I would deliver a movie with no overt violence, no bad language, no sex, no nudity. Katherine is well respected medial professional that is until she goes home where both her and her husband have been home schooling their only son Andy who has a number of medical conditions. He does get a 1-up on her at one point and it’s a great little moment, you’ll cheer him on and then realise you’re genuinely terrified for his safety. There was just one guy, a wonderful man named Gerry Kessler who died since the movie was completed, who wrote one check out of his own pocket, for 6,5 million dollars. It is disclosed that the heart transplant, that is about to take place, is for the real Andy, Katherine and Richard's biological son.

When their visits are discovered, Andy's father, Richard ( Michael Shannon), is initially fine with the visits, but Katherine is having none of it and her behavior grows increasingly erratic. For me it was an hour and twenty minutes well spent and I will be definitely recommending it to friends and family and of course to all you kind souls bothering to read my take on this truly underrated movie. She moves into the neighborhood with her grandparents (played by Leslie Lyles and the ever so cool Peter Fonda), after the death of her parents. A TV weatherman is recruited by government scientists to help contain powerful freak winds before they converge and destroy the planet. There are a lot of complex themes here and they are touched upon carefully, the direction is intelligent and clear; we never truly believe that Kathleen is entirely evil and you should be able to offer her up some sympathy. I mean, c'mon, there's a section when they want you to be excited from watching a teenage version of Misery. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Mary Ann moves in next door and befriends Andy however nothing is what it seems at Andy house with a shock of what is in the basement. Starring Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, The Iceman) and directed by John McNaughton (Wild Things), a mentally unstable physician (Samantha Morton) keeps her dying son completely secluded from the outside world in a bid to preserve what life he has left. The film premiered on October 19, 2013 as part of the Chicago International Film Festival and was screened on July 21, 2014 in Canada as part of the Fantasia International Film Festival. As Andy is very sick he must stay within his home per the instructions of his mother, Katherine ( Samantha Morton), who also forbids him from having any visitors. IM NOT A FAN OF HORROR so this suited me fine, as there is no gratuitous stuff more generally linked with the horror genre, as scare tactics. They manage to get back inside the house and Maryann hides in the basement, where she discovers a comatose boy. Tension is built up effortlessly and, at times, it is the screaming silence that speaks louder than any words could.

So much in fact that, the caring demeanor of his mother suddenly takes a turn from sweet yet tired to a more domineering almost "Annie Wilkes like persona". Whether it be Richard, who can’t escape his unhappy marriage and controlling wife, or Andy who literally can’t escape from his wheelchair, there is a definite exploration of what it means to be stuck in a situation. It is the first feature film he has directed in over a decade (his last being Speaking of Sex in 2001) and his first horror venture since Haeckel's Tale, a 2006 episode of the horror anthology series Masters of Horror. The film is directed by John McNaughton and features acclaimed actor Peter Fonda ( Easy Rider) as Maryann's grandfather. It may seem like a bit of a chore at times, but there is a lot to enjoy in this quietly terrifying, character-driven horror thriller and it’s worth watching for Samantha Morton’s performance alone.Well, something is seriously amiss in the boy's home and it soon becomes clear that his mother is doing something to him.
