Gold Spot was released in commemoration of the 135th year of Spot Whiskey releases by Mitchell & Son in June 2022 using whiskey matured in bourbon barrels, sherry butts, Bordeaux wine casks, and Port pipes, non-chill filtered, aged for 9 years and bottled at 51.4% ABV. Four generations later, Mitchell & Son is still in the wine and spirits business under the stewardship of Jonathan Mitchell and his son Robert. Irish Distillers now owns the Yelllow and Green Spot brands but Mitchell & Son retain the sole rights to market the whiskey in Ireland. a b c d e f g h i j k l m "Spot Whiskey". www.singlepotstill.com. www.singlepotstill.com/ . On the nose: Hot and fruity. Behind the ethanol heat are medium aromas of chocolate, Madeira, dates, muscovado sugar, Portuguese egg tarts, pears, ginger syrup, nutmeg and cinnamon syrup. These are fairly short, but they’re more expressive and coherent compared to the Green and Yellow Spot. There are also hints of peaches and apples hiding in-between as well. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. In the mouth: Hot and fruity with a much rounder texture. I get medium and more lasting tastes of Madeira, toffee, raisins, caramel, New Orleans chicory coffee, Portuguese egg tarts, and nutmeg. The end is as peppery as the start. Conclusions: Ice: A cube or two of ice really brings forth the oak spice notes while flattening the sweetness quite a bit on the palate.

Yellow Spot is a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. Irish single pot still whiskey doesn’t mean it’s single distilled, but that it’s triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills within a SINGLE distillery. Unlike Green Spot, which didn’t carry an age statement, Yellow Spot is a 12 year old whiskey which was aged in a combination of American ex-bourbon barrels, Spanish sherry, and Spanish Malaga casks. Using distillate obtained from Jameson's nearby Bow Street Distillery, Mitchell & Son matured whiskey in a mix of casks that had been used to hold both dark and light sherries in their cellars under Fitzwilliam Lane in Dublin. [2] For the first five years of maturation, half of the whiskey was aged in casks that had previously held Oloroso and other darker sherries, with the other half aged in casks that had held lighter finos. [2] This combination prevented the darker wines from overpowering the whiskey. [1] After five years, whiskeys from the respective light and dark sherry casks were then vatted together and allowed to mature for an additional five years in neutral oak. [1] Appearance: Reddish- brown to auburn. Distinctive to the others in the line up with a more red tinge. Similar viscous effect while swirling the glass. Single pot still whiskeys, which are historically unique to Ireland, are similar to single malts in that they are produced solely from pot still distillate. [15] However, in contrast to malts that only use malted barley in the mash, single pot still whiskeys are produced from a mixed mash that contains both malted and unmalted barley. PALATE: Yummy! Fruit drizzled stone fruit with vanilla and anise mixed with red apples, wood and sherry notes. Hints of dark roast coffee and barley. Medium-bodied and inviting. Bits of fresh toast with melted butter. Lovely balance between the fruity sweetness, wood and spices. Barley rich pot still character with notes of caramel, butterscotch, spice, dried fruit, wheat toast, almonds and vanilla. It’s really nice with a soft underlying sweetness. Nose: The Malaga wine cask effect is subtle but effective – soft fruits, mildly vinous, with a strong heart of butterscotch and buttery caramel. Like Green Spot, the cereal notes are in balance, and just this side of light. It bears little to no resemblance to Redbreast, despite the similar distillation. Deeper in the glass, there is an undercurrent of vanilla cake frosting. NOSE: Fresh nectarines, dried fruit, wood, and barley heaps of fruity sweetness. Pepper and vanilla with caramel sweetness. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect.Green and Yellow Spot are single pot still Irish whiskeys, meaning a combination of malted and unmalted barley is distilled together (triple-distilled, in this case) in a copper pot still, like Redbreast which is also produced at the Midleton distillery by IDL. Unlike most Irish Whiskeys, single pot still whiskies do not contain any column-still grain whiskey, making this style analogous to (but not the same as) single-malt. Yellow Spot is matured for 12 years in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and ex-Malaga (a sweet Spanish fortified wine) casks. The vatted result is bottled without chill-filtration at 46% ABV. I know it’s not me, since I had some glasses of other spirits I was familiar with. They were their usual selves. The shyness is most likely the result of batch variation.
