About this deal

EV Comp stands for Exposure Compensation. In most cases, you can leave EV Comp at the default setting (zero). Shutter angle comes from capturing footage on film, with film cameras having a shutter that rotates to expose each frame. There are filters that are measured to a fraction of a stop, but, for simplicity, we are using whole numbers here with the exception of a few filters.) Additionally, I'm going to be shooting in CHICAGO as well, and want some shots of Willis Tower. The idea was for me to shoot at night so I could get a dark/cool look, but I'm not too sure I have the wherewithal to figure that the lighting/mechanics of that at the moment. I saw some of the pictures above and liked how dark some of the shots were; specifically, the ones that were monochrome.

Longer exposure times can also produce cool light trails or blurred motion in still images. In videos, however, the ND filters can help you achieve a more cinematic look. Getting your fps down to 24fps can give you a much sleeker look than what you get with a higher framerate. The slow 24fps gives some blur to rapid movements and makes the footage more suitable for the human eye. Best ND Filters for GoPro cameras Camera Butter A high ISO Max provides flexibility, especially when using a fixed shutter speed, as ISO becomes the primary way the camera adjusts exposure. However, if you want the most consistent and clean image possible, it’s best to keep your ISO Max as low as possible given the lighting conditions. Do you have any advice when it comes to using a variable ND filter? I've read a lot about "cross-polarization" and "vignetting" at this point, and these are things I definitely want to avoid with this particular project. I want my shots to look sharp and cinematic, with varying levels of depth of field depending on location.

Practical Examples

For cinematic FPV shots, we typically aim to set the shutter speed to a fixed value relative to the frame rate we are using, adhering to something called “the 180-degree rule” (which I will explain shortly). This technique creates realistic motion blur, making the video appear “more cinematic.” However, when we do this, the image might inevitably be overexposed in bright environments, which is when ND filters come into play (to reduce exposure). To sum it up, 180° works well for slow, relaxed cruising shows. 90° is better for more rapid and shaky shots. Experiment and see what works best for you. Why Use an ND Filter? Adjusting the EV Comp value tells the camera to either brighten or darken the image from the optimal exposure it perceives.

In specific situations, set ISO Max higher for extra flexibility (e.g., 400 or 1600 in low light). For Lowlight/Night Shooting Lens settings determine the field of view (FOV) of the image. The available lens options depends on the camera and selected resolution/FPS/stabilization settings, which include Linear, Wide, Superview, and Hyperview (from the narrowest to the widest FOV). The 180-degree rule is simple: set your shutter speed to one over twice the frame rate. For example, for 30 fps, set the shutter speed to 1/60, or for 60fps, set shutter speed to 1/120. This is referred to as a shutter angle of 180 degrees, as to why, is beyond the scope of this post. To combat these issues, many GoPro users turn to ND filters, polarized filters, and underwater filters. In this guide, we will take a closer look at these different types of filters and how they can help you achieve the best possible footage with your GoPro Hero 10. Sunlight captured in the windows of a skyscraper. The ND filter permits the shutter speed to be slow enough to allow the clouds to streak even with reflected direct sunlight in the frame. Recommended ND Filter Factors

FPV videos typically use the widest FOV possible, as a wider vertical field of view gives image stablization more image to work with. A wider FOV also looks better for FPV videos. Unless you’re using Reelsteady for video stabilization (in which case, choose Wide), it’s recommended to select Hyperview (or Superview if Hyperview isn’t available). Hypersmooth To be able to best control the shutter speed, we need to put the camera into Protune mode. Here are some settings and process to start with, but ultimately you will want to experiment and develop your own method:

What is a Neutral Density Filter?

Unless you’re filming indoors where light sources (e.g., halogen light bulbs) might alter the environment’s color unnaturally, the best range for it would be around 4500K to 5500K in outdoor environment. Polarizing filters can be rotated to maximize or minimize the admission of polarized light. Rotating the polarizing filter will make rainbows, reflections, and other polarized light stand out or nearly disappear depending on how much of the light is polarized and the angle of polarization. print a GoPro dummy in TPU and fill it with coins, metal weights or rice to match the weight of your GoPro. This ensures consistent weight distribution, which affects your drone’s performance and control feel. Flat/Log – Retains more image detail and flexibility, allow greater freedom for color correction and color grading in video editing software ND (neutral density) filters are like sunglasses for a camera. They allow for longer exposures without over-exposing the camera sensor.
