About this deal

The Dot’ tells the story of an encouraging teacher and a student who does not believe in her own abilities. The teacher encourages the student to start small, believe in herself, and just see where it goes. What begins as just one small dot on a piece of paper, develops into a work of art and leads the student on a journey of confidence, bravery, and self-discovery. The story in ‘The Dot’ has been an inspiration to children and adults all over the world, and it plays a central role in the celebration of International Dot Day. Most children struggle at some point and feel like they just can’t do something. The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds is a wonderful story that helps to show that with a little perseverance and a change of perspective, amazing things are possible.

Dot To Dot Book For Kids Ages 8-12: Challenging and Fun Dot Dot To Dot Book For Kids Ages 8-12: Challenging and Fun Dot

REVIEW: I like to see a smart girl that is very smart. And this title is very timely as I see more and more children younger and younger interacting more and more with technology and less with each other. So Dot's whole day is surrounded by computers, and smart phones with tweeting and sharing until her mother sends her outside to Reboot! Recharge! and Restart! (all techie words). And then Dot remembers that she used to like the outdoors and she finds ways to use her techie skills to play in the real world with her friends.Vashti goes from being a sad and angry child, with no confidence, to someone who has the maturity and ability to help someone else to believe in themselves. Do you really think you can’t do it, or is it just that it is difficult and needs practise to become better?

I had just read the book Ish, also by this author/illustrator, and then was alerted to this book, which was published first. Go right to the source: At the beginning of your International Dot Day celebrations, it is a good idea to let your kids know where it all started. You can do this by reading your class the story of “The Dot”. Through this, kids will learn the meaning behind the holiday, and be inspired to get involved with the celebrations. Vashti says that she can’t draw. Has there ever been a time when you thought that you couldn’t do something? How did you overcome it? The creativity in each of us needs encouraging. I truly know that. From just a word, a push, a smile, blossoms can bloom. It is not just about drawing or painting either. Writing, sculpting, playing a musical instrument, weaving, any form of art can show up with just that nudge. The next time Vashti goes to her art class, what does she see? The jab of pen… the little dot… is hanging above her teacher’s desk in a beautiful frame. As an early marketing executive at Facebook, Randi created and ran the social media pioneer’s marketing programs. She led the company’s U.S. election and international politics strategy and created Facebook’s live streaming initiatives during the 2008 Presidential Inauguration. Randi was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2011 for her innovative coverage of the 2010 mid-term elections that integrated online and TV coverage in unique formats. What’s more, as International Dot Day is so widely celebrated, it presents a great opportunity for people to share their artwork with others around the world who are also celebrating the holiday. How Do People Celebrate International Dot Day? Use the words ‘Just make a mark and see where it takes you,’ as inspiration for your own artwork. What type of mark will you make? Where will it take you? What materials will you use?
