Is the ALPHACAT NITRO and its nitrogen-infused midsole the most comfortable PUMA golf shoe I’ve ever worn? I’d say so. This statement must be taken with a grain of salt because I can’t say I’ve worn every PUMA golf shoe. This is the best way of testing a golf shoe as using it in the real world over a number of weeks allows us to see how they perform when variables change like weather, ground conditions, different stances and lies, and so on. Having said that, the new upper was firmer than in the Pwradapt Caged and this then provided a nice balance between a shoe that is ideal for use during the summer when the weather is better, but still gives you the support that you need. I put mine on twenty minutes before the round during my testing and even kept them on whilst we waited out a weather delay in the clubhouse, and the Alphacat were just as comfortable on the course as they were while I ate my club sandwich and chips! The shoes passed the waterproof test in damp conditions where there was rain around, although I probably wouldn't choose to go out in them if it was raining as the mesh section around the top of the foot could be a little liable to getting wet.

PUMA’s ALPHACAT golf shoe has been around for a while. But now PUMA’s upgrading their mainline ALPHACAT spikeless golf shoes with the introduction of NITRO foam. Adapt Foam, which rivals the likes of Adidas' Boost technology, is made from a combination of EVA cushioning and an impact resistant polymer.The new Alphacat reminded me a lot of the Pwradapt Caged shoe that I tested last year, albeit as a spikeless model which was a little more lightweight and this made walking 18 holes very straightforward. On the sole, the contrast of the grey and orange lugs is a nice eye-catching feature which you get glimpses of whilst walking or in the follow through, as well as providing a handy visual indication of where Puma's traction technology is helping you out. If you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain then a waterproof shoe is a must. The best designs will keep your feet bone dry however if you play golf in glorious sunshine most of the time, then you may view other factors as more significant.

To be honest, once I was out on the course I couldn't really feel anything different with this traction compared to a usual pair of spikeless shoes, but I completed my round of golf without any slips or feelings of instability despite playing from a variety of different lies. As someone who spends his day knee-deep in piles of golf shoes, I tend to notice the little things that others may not. One of my biggest takeaways about the golf shoe industry as a whole is their propensity to sacrifice function in the name of branding. This is just yet another good looking shoe from Puma - it provides modern styling without being over the top or in your face. The white and grey colourway was subtle, easily paired with trousers or shorts of most colours, and should have appeal to a wide range of golfers.
