About this deal

Providing your curious toddler with the freedom to leave their bed when adults may be sleeping requires some safety planning. Many families decide that a safety gate across the bedroom door will provide an early warning system that their child is awake and ready to start their day, giving tired parents and carers an extra couple of minutes to wake up themselves! More importantly, the stair gate will restrict exploration to their bedroom, keeping inquisitive tots away from toiletries in bathrooms or hazards in other rooms such as older siblings’ toys or small items which could be a choking hazard or similar. text": "Bed guards and bed rails are not designed specifically for double beds although some bed guards are suitable. If your double bed has an extra deep mattress you may wish to consider investing in an extra tall and extra wide bed rail. This is considered the most suitable and safest bed guard for double beds. An extra tall bed rail will provide you with additional height and therefore greater safety for your child.

Choosing the most suitableand a compatible Bed Guard for your child's Cot Bed, Single Bed or Double Bed etc can be a daunting task. With so many sizes and styles to choose from, making an informed choice will ensure your child's bed guardfits your mattress and bed perfectly and ultimately is safe for your child to sleep alongside. Although unable to fold down fully, mesh bed rails fold down to an angle of 90 degrees enabling you to access the bed with ease. Due to the uniquely designed base frame, all mesh bed guards and wooden bed guards are suitable and safe for slatted beds frames and solid bed frames" W) x 40cm(H) (Typically used on large cot bed or small single bed mattresses of approximate length of 150cm - 180cm)Some mesh bed guards feature elastic straps that stretch around the mattress to secure the bed guard in place. As standard bed guards are not designed for double beds, these straps will not stretch to fit across a double mattress. However, the weight of a double mattress alone will safely and securely keep the bedrail in place. Bed guards can be fitted either side of your double bed if required."

Wooden bed rails are less suited for travelling, they are heavier than mesh bed rails and not the best option for taking with you on holiday. Safetots offer a range of extra tall bed guards in both wood and mesh, available in different widths. We have extra wide bed guards suitable for a range of mattress sizes, including double and king size beds. However, please note that these rails cannot be used with bunk beds or inflatable beds.

Are bed rails safe for babies?

The four available sizes are as follows (Please note the typical bed suggestions are a guide only, and it is strongly recommended to measure your mattress size first before purchasing the correct size bed guard):

A bed rail prevents young children from falling out of bed and potentially hurting themselves, and it provides peace of mind for parents at bedtime. Should your little ones manage to climb out of bed during the night, our range of baby gates and room dividers will keep them away from any potentially dangerous areas of the home. Don't cover the bed guard in fabrics or clothing. This could make the bed guard dangerous, as it could prevent your child from being able to breathe when against the guard. Always make sure that the bed guard is completely breathable, and there's nothing preventing air from getting in and out. text": "Children’s bed rails are recommended for use between the ages of 18 months through to five years. From the age of five, a bed guard should be taken down. This is because beyond the age of five children are stronger and their weight is heavier, meaning bed guards may not be able to sustain the weight, strength, and curiosity of an older child. However, some children may benefit beyond the age of five with a bed rail installed should they be prone to sleeping near the edge of their bed or if they are active sleepers and move frequently in their sleep. A more versatile bed rail is the mesh bed rail. Mesh bed rails are lightweight and portable, and with their simple fold down design, they are a great choice for taking on your travels. Mesh bed rails benefit from a 90 degrees fold down mechanism, enabling easier access to your toddler when getting them in and out of bed.

Unlike mesh bed guards, our wooden bed rails do not feature the 90 degrees fold down mechanism. A wooden bed rail once fitted holds one position only. Wooden bed rails are not recommended for inflatable beds, upper bunk beds, or cots, but are suited to single beds, double beds, king, and queen beds. Make sure the bed guard is properly fitted. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and test its strength by pushing on the guard from inside the bed. If the bed guard falls or moves, it hasn't been safely fitted, and should be fixed before your toddler uses it. text": "All Safetots branded mesh bed guards are compatible with cots and cot beds. As the hinge mechanism is featured to the side of each gate panel, the slim base frame can fit safe and snug beneath the mattress. Other bed guard brands may feature the hinge mechanism to the base of the frame making them unsuitable for a sunken mattress, as the hinge mechanism will not be able to lie flush with the base of the bed. Before positioning your bed guard, it is important to ensure you are fitting a suitable bed rail for the bed and mattress intended. With all bed rails and child bed guards, it is recommended that there is at least a clear 25cm gap between each end of the bed and the bed rail. text": "Once in place, wooden bed rails cannot be lowered. These bed rails provide a strong secure closure for a bed in preventing young children from falling out of the bed. Easy to install without the need of drilling or screwing, a wooden bed rail provides the most sturdy, strongest, and securest bed rail for kids while they sleep.

text": "Some mesh baby bed guards have the added feature and benefit of a 90-degree fold down mechanism. This mechanism enables you to access your child easier than other less versatile bed rails. It makes changing bed linen easier and your infant’s bed generally more accessible. It is important to fit a compatible bed guard to your toddler's bed to ensure the ultimate safety and, upon installation, make sure there is little to no movement. Bed guards should be installed at the head of the bed and not at the centre or foot of the bed and a 25cm gap between the bed rail and both ends of the bed should be visible" Wooden bed guards come as a standard length or extra wide. An extra wide bed guard will cover a greater stretch of the bed and it’s simply a personal choice as to whether you choose standard or extra wide based on how enclosed you wish your child to be. It is however recommended that there is a clear 25cm gap between each end of the bed and the bed rail.

Safetots Mesh Bed Railsare suitable for a bed with a mattress sunken in to the frame and for beds with a wooden slatted base. Safetots Wooden Bed Railsare suitable for wooden beds with a slatted base and also beds with a sunken mattress. If you have a sunken mattress, it’s important to choose a bed rail without bulky hinges which may prevent the bed rail from fitting between the mattress and the bed frame. Wooden bed rails provide a contemporary look and feel in any home. They come in a range of great colours in blue, grey, pink, white and natural wood enabling you to match home interiors. Unlike mesh bed guards, our wooden bed rails do not feature the 90 degrees fold down mechanism. A wooden bed rail once fitted holds one position only. Wooden bed rails are not recommended for inflatable beds, upper bunk beds, or cots, but are suited to single beds, double beds, king, and queen beds.A more versatile bed rail is the mesh bed rail. Mesh bed rails are lightweight and portable, and with their simple fold down design, they are a great choice for taking on your travels. Mesh bed rails benefit from a 90 degrees fold down mechanism, enabling easier access to your toddler when getting them in and out of bed. Safetots also recommend against using bedguards on the lower bunk bed level. Many children find bunk beds the indoor equivalent of a climbing frame and a serious accident may occur should a child use the rail as a foothold or spring board when climbing on and off the top bunk. Play of this nature may also compromise the stability of the fixings or fatigue the components making it unsafe for its purpose. As tempting as it may be to tie teddies and similar to the bedrail to create a sleepy environment, these pose strangulation and entrapment dangers, and nothing should ever be attached to the bedguard that is not part of the fittings. Bed guards and bed rails are not designed specifically for double beds although some bed guards are suitable. If your double bed has an extra deep mattress you may wish to consider investing in an extra tall and extra wide bed rail. This is considered the most suitable and safest bed guard for double beds.
