About this deal

Slug Gone wool pellets are made from wool shoddy, from the fleece of sheep, which is an important by-product of the wool textile industry. Wool fibres have very fine scales with small barbs on the tip called cuticle cells which cause the wool fibres to felt and mat together. The abrasive and hygroscopic nature of the wool fibres absorb some of the slimy substance underneath the 'slug's foot' and cause irritation, forcing slugs to seek food elsewhere. Place the pellets around the plant in a 6 to 8 inch diameter collar, making sure the pellets are touching. Slug Gone is the natural, organic way to keep slugs and snails away from plants. Popular amongst environmentally-conscious and organic gardeners, Slug Gone is 100% natural and derived from British wool.

Slug Gone Wool Pellets are a natural, organic way to keep slugs and snails away from plants. These pellets form a highly effective textured barrier. Suitable for organic gardens, Slug Gone pellets are produced from wool and are ideal for using around fruit, flowers and vegetables, and are perfect for use in tubs and baskets. As an organic material, Slug Gone contains naturally occurring slow release nutrients, and when dug into the soil after use it will help feed plants and improve moisture retention. It is a biodegradable protein fibre which releases nitrogen, potassium, sulphur and other trace elements essential for plant growth. This will stay undisturbed around the plant for up to 12 months as it slowly biodegrades naturally into the soil. For best results, apply Slug Gone as a 10cm band around the plant and ensure there are no gaps. To prevent slugs reaching the plants ensure no leaves or stems overhang the pot’s perimeter, stand next to containers which do not have Slug Gone protection, or place next to walls where slugs can drop onto the plant.

To use, simply lay the pellets on the compost around the stems of plants, and water. Once wetted, the pellets 'self-felt' to form a continuous mat around the stems. The minute fibres in the mat are an irritant to slugs and snails, and the mat also absorbs moisture from the slug’s foot, making it extremely difficult for them to travel across. To deter slugs and other gastropods, simply lay the pellets around the stems of plants. For best results, add Slug Gone in a 10cm radius around the plant, then add water to cause the fibres to bond. The swollen wool pellets form a felt which makes it difficult for slugs to travel across. The wool pellet mat also contains abrasive particles which irritate the slug’s foot, physically deterring the slug and creating a 100% natural barrier.

Safe to use around children and pets, Slug Gone can also be used to protect against cabbage root fly. Water the pellets well and after a short period of time the pellets will bind together forming an insulation mat that will not blow or wash away. Its minute fibres form a mat which is an irritant to slugs and absorbs moisture from the slug’s foot The wool pellet mat is also excellent at keeping the surface of pots dry, but retaining the moisture beneath. This means that weeds have difficulty germinating on the surface and frequency of watering is cut down due to reduced evaporation. Containing naturally occurring nutrients, Slug Gone consists of a biodegradable protein fibre which releases nitrogen, potassium, sulphur and other trace elements essential for plant growth.
