About this deal

As a witch practicing folk witchcraft, I found much of this book unrelateable. It is a well-written book and the author has done a fine job of creating this work. It’s detailed, well researched, and carefully organized. It’s got a wealth of prayers to call upon depending on the need. And if my path was the same as those whom the book was written for - Wiccans, Pagans, and polytheists - this book would be a great reference to have in any personal library. When you pray to the gods, you’re asking them to bless you and turn their benevolent attention to you. If you want to make sure that you don’t suffer any misfortune, then you should ask the gods to watch over you while you’re doing this. In writing this and other books, I've learned a lot about prayers. Since this learning hasn't caused me to reject major parts of what is in this book, I haven't made any radical changes to it. I would like to talk a little bit about the changes I have made and a little bit about what I've learned about prayer since the book's first publication. In it, I emphasize the function of prayer as communication. Communication has to be between. There is a speaker, and there is a listener or listeners. In prayer, these listeners are the deities, the ancestors, the nature spirits—any or all sacred beings. The biggest benefit of using prayer beads as a pagan is the way they center your life around a regular devotional practice. As Paganism is a very diverse religion with many distinct though related traditions, the forms of Pagan worship vary widely. It may be collective or solitary. It may consist of informal prayer or meditation, or of formal, structured rituals through which the participants affirm their deep spiritual connection with nature, honour their Gods and Goddesses, and celebrate the seasonal festivals of the turning year and the rites of passage of human life.

Second, they encourage you to develop a personal relationship with the gods. Third, they help you to remember your prayers throughout the day. Fourth, they provide a physical reminder of your prayers. Wiccans often use prayer beads because they are an easy way to incorporate their spirituality into their everyday lives. Pagan meditation beads can be useful for any witch or occultist looking to deepen their relationship with the gods. Finally, they give you something tangible to hold onto while praying, enhancing the sensory experience and improving your ability to recall your prayers.

Depending on the branch of paganism the deceased was a part of, readings and poems can vary enormously. There’ll typically be a eulogy, and many prefer poems or prose written by themselves or their fellow pagans, while others may take them from a favourite book or text. Heathenry Worship of the Norse gods often involved rituals. Illustration: The Viking Herald How did Vikings worship? A perhaps controversial element of a natural burial is the shallow grave. While six feet is the usual depth, the less soil on top of the body, the easier it is for oxygen to reach it and hasten the microbial activity which begins the process of returning the body to the earth. References to the natural world, particularly the four elements of Earth, Fire, Air and Water and representations of those elements. Have a garden with herbs or vegetables? Use them in your cooking on a daily basis. If you don’t have a garden, choose spices from your kitchen cabinet for specific purposes. For example – cinnamon for money. Sugar to sweeten up situations and people. Rosemary for love. Etc. 25. Pray to the Ancestors This northern branch of Germanic religion, developed from the 1st century BCE, was mostly transmitted through an oral culture. Making your own string of prayer beads is a wonderful devotional practice that can bring you closer to your personal gods.Take time in the morning while you’re getting ready for the day or take time just before falling asleep to say a simple prayer to the gods. Prayers of gratitude are best. The more grateful we are for the gods’ presence in our lives, the more blessings roll in. 19. Visit the Garden But there is value in simply being thankful, even if you aren’t offering thanks to anyone in particular. There’s value in expressing the desires of your heart, even if you aren’t sure who’s listening.

When praying to the spirits, it’s important to focus on your intentions. Rosaries are most often used to ask them to bless you and guide you in your life journey more than asking for material gain.May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire, so that stranger and friend may come and warm himself at it. The epigraphic evidence comes from inscriptions on offerings, temple walls, etc. Offerings sometimes have a short prayer inscribed on them that gives the name and intent of the offerer. Inscriptions found on temple walls, especially in Egypt, tend to be particularly rich in information. As the sun’s power seems all but gone, our minds also turn to those who have passed on to Summerland. Winter is a fitting season to pray for the peace of those souls. Also, for our own souls, ask for health, well-being, and the vision to keep hope in our hearts until spring comes again. A Winter Prayer If your religious upbringing was like mine, I strongly advise starting with some good scripted prayers. They’re different from what you’ve heard so they’re less likely to trigger bad memories. They also require more concentration, which will help you focus on the deity or spirit to whom you’re praying.
