Simplicity runs throughout Harry Potter Labyrinth and this is reflected in the game’s set up. All that is required to play the game, is the game board, 34 square maze tiles, 24 picture cards and 4 playing pieces. The main set-up is to randomly position 33 of the square maze tiles into the game board, any way you like, creating a random and different maze for the start of each game. 24 of the maze cards contain pictures, matching the 24 picture cards, of the biggest characters from the series. In this version of Codenames, cards have both words and pictures on them, making the experience more appealing and attractive. The cards feature content from the Harry Potter universe, but the game mechanics make it so that players can be included who aren't as familiar with Harry Potter knowledge. The aim of the game is to be the first player to visit all the characters within the labyrinth displayed on their picture cards and then return to their starting square. Sounds easy right!? Not when you consider the labyrinth changes shape! With each player’s turn, your pesky opponents will do their best to make reaching your characters as difficult as possible!Yet, if you’re playing with older players, the game may get a bit more cutthroat (as it does in our family).

The rest are shuffled face down at the start of the game and then placed randomly to fill the rest of the board. One corridor tile will remain off the board. The board has 16 permanent corridor tiles in place. But then an even better deal came along. Ravensburger sent us a copy of the new iteration of the game — Harry Potter Labyrinth!
